Auction description:
Sale 14261 - A Sale of Important Sports, Competition and Collectors' Motor Cars and Fine Automobilia, 1 Sep 2006
Goodwood Revival, Chichester, Sussex
Lot No: 216
The last right-hand drive manufactured
1954 Jaguar XK120 SE Drophead Coupé
Registration no. NRW 356
Chassis no. S667294
Engine no. F3878-8S
Estimate: £28,000 - 32,000
The ‘S’ prefix on this XK120’s chassis number indicates that it is an ‘SE’ (Special Equipment) model equipped with the desirable 180bhp engine. Right-hand drive Drophead Coupé chassis numbers commenced at 667001 and a mere 294 were built, making this car the last to leave the Browns Lane factory in September 1954. A statement from Mr Liggins - the previous owner from May 1988 to August 1996 - reveals that he had looked for three years to find the right XK120. He bought this example, which retains its original engine - both ’head and block - already restored and believes that the work was carried out circa two years prior to his acquisition. It was evidently restored to a high standard, although no bills are offered with the car.

‘S667294’ came into the present owner’s hands in August 1996 when the recorded mileage stood at 4,000 (it is assumed that the odometer was ‘zeroed’ upon completion of the restoration). Forming part of the vendor’s large private collection, the car has been mostly displayed and kept in dry, climate controlled conditions. The current mileage total is 4,172. Although the car is on chromed wire wheels, the original pressed steel wheels and spats are also offered.

Finished in red with black hood, black interior trim and matching carpets, ‘NRW 356’ will be offered with fresh MoT and road fund licence, current Swansea V5C document and previous V5. Jaguar XK120 Drophead Coupés very rarely come to market and this restored, matching numbers car represents a unique opportunity to acquire the last example of the rarest of all the XK120 variants, equipped with the ultimate, Special Equipment engine.

Offer seen on facebook 12/19

For sale £89,000 All Offers Considered, or part-ex,.

Rare 1954 Original Right Hand Drive. Jaguar XK120, DHC, SE. Drop Head Coupe, Special Equipment 3.4cc Straight Six Engine, the car has a Jaguar Heritage Certificate 64141 proving its authenticity and original registration number [ NRW 356 ] this is a private sale, with registered V5 in my name.

This car was one of the last 1 of only 292 Original RHD Jaguar XK120 DHC SE. Built 10 August 1954 and left the Browns Lane Factory on 04 Oct 1954. Purchased by My Wallace Cartwright he was the first owner and also a car distributor, who First Registered: NRW 356 from the Coventry factory, and kept it in a large personal collection for many years. A very fine example of the rarest of all the jaguar XK120 variants produced, the car has Matching Numbers VIN/Chassis No: S667294. With Original Engine No: F3878-8S. and Gearbox No: OSL80B, Wind up windows, wire wheels Including spare wheel, the original rear wheel covered spats, 4 spare wheel hubs and 4 hub-caps, I have an extra set of new matching bucket seat backs in black leather to match the car, I have put one in the car to show you in picture. I also have a set of new polished aluminium period number plates for the car.

Exceptional condition throughout inside and out, the red body work is in stunning condition with fantastic panel gaps the best I have seen. It’s had a Quality older restoration in 1986 finished in a red exterior with black leather interior and wood trims, originally black & tan. If you are looking for an Original RHD Jaguar XK120 Drop Head Coupe SE, in excellent condition throughout, the car was restored completely in 1986, and kept pretty much as original apart from colour change, its not modernized like many XK's are today. This Special Equipment Model, Manufacture Date 10 Aug 1954 First Registration NRW 356 Date: 04 October 1954 Coventry United Kingdom.

(The car has only covered around 4500 miles since the restoration.) Taxation Class Historic Vehicle Free. This car was the last (PW – not correct) of only 292 Original RHD Jaguar XK120 DHC SE to leave the Browns Lane Factory on 04 October 1954. A very fine example of the rarest of all the jaguar XK120 variants produced between 1949 - 1954. Previous owners prior one being a Mr Liggins had stated that the car was restored to a very high standard in 1986, he purchased the car in 1988 after looking for over three years to find a car in this condition he kept it up until he sold it in 1996, to the next owner who also kept it in his large private collection mostly for display and kept in dry climate controlled conditions until 2006. I came to own the car a few years later, as I traded my Cobra xcs for this 1954 jaguar XK privately, which I keep garaged and covered at all times, as its a bit of a collectors car really as you can see, I now think its time to sell this classic Jaguar to someone who has more time than I have who can enjoy the car, hence this private sale, with Best Offer or part exchange, Thank you.

Steve Harrison, Blackpool, UK

XKdata adds: Wallace Cartwright was the distributor in India; the first owner was N S Bannantine, Sunningdale, England

OSL80B is not a complete gearbox number

This car was not the last of only 292 built.

Some XK 120s had after-market overdrives fitted later but where not originally fitted.
