This 1956 Jaguar XK140MC coupe was fully restored between 1988 and 1993 and has been with the seller for 13 years. This example retains its numbers-matching 3.4 liter twin cam inline-six with a correct C-Type head mated to a Borg Warner DG250 automatic transmission transplanted from a later XK140 or XK150. Originally equipped with an earlier automatic and finished in Black with a Red interior, this XK140 was repainted during the restoration and is now finished in Cotswold Blue with a Grey interior. All mechanicals have been regularly maintained as detailed below, and the car is now offered with a Jaguar letter of authenticity, service records since 2003, an owner's manual, transmission manual, shop manual, and a clean Alberta title in the seller's name.

This Jaguar was manufactured on March 22, 1956 according to the included letter from Jaguar. It was reportedly sold new in Beverly Hills, California and stayed in the Los Angeles area until a dealership brought it to Vancouver, Canada. It eventually made its way to Alberta where it was purchased and restored by the previous owner. The seller acquired it in 2003.

The restoration took place between 1988-1993, and the car was repainted Cotswold Blue with a Grey leather interior by G.W. Bartlett. The seller states that the paint has some patina as it is now over 20 years old, but there is no overspray and only one minor spot of bubbling. No filler has been found on or underneath the car, and the seller states that he is not aware of any rust or corrosion issues. The paint presents nicely in these photos over straight bodywork free of notable dents, dings, or flaws.

During the restoration, this XK140 was fitted with correct front lighting, converted to a single 12-volt battery replacing the original two 6-volts, and all brightwork was freshened up. In 2001, this car won "Best Jaguar" in the Calgary European Field Meet show. In 2016, it garnered 2nd In Class at CEFM.

Factory knock-off wire wheels are shod in Goodrich Silvertown whitewall tires with good tread remaining according to the seller. A full set of usable Avon blackwall tires also come with the vehicle.

The trunk has also been finished to a high standard as detailed in the photo gallery below. It retains a full size spare wheel and tire as shown above.

The Grey G.W. Bartlett leather interior was fitted during the restoration and looks to be holding up nicely in these photos with little wear on the seats, door panels, unmarked carpets, and crack-free wood trim.

All instrumentation, lighting, and electrics are said to be in good order with the working odometer showing 28,380 miles. The seller believes this reflects total mileage, though no records exist to confirm the figure. The last service stickers affixed to the driver's door were removed just prior to the restoration and indicate about 17k miles, which the seller will include with the sale. A complete and unrestored Smiths tube radio with the faceplate is also included in the sale.

The fold-down rear seats and cargo area are in equally clean condition as shown above and in the photo gallery below.

Under the hood, this XK140 retains its original, numbers-matching 3.4 liter twin cam inline-six (#G7324-8S). Servicing during the restoration years ago included all-new wiring from Moss Motors, a K&N air filter with the factory filter also included, and new front/rear transmission seals. Recently, the seller has replaced all wheel cylinders and the master cylinder, rebuilt the carburetors, and rebuilt the transmission while maintaining the vehicle in as-restored condition. An electric radiator fan is also installed. The seller states that this XK140 runs smooth and cool even in stop-and-go traffic.

At some point in the past, the original automatic transmission was replaced with a Borg Warner DG250 Jaguar automatic from a later XK140 or XK150. The seller states that it shifts smoothly in all gears and matches the character of the car nicely. The only stated current mechanical flaw is a small transmission leak out of the speedometer cable connection. Otherwise, this Jaguar is said to start easily and drive nicely at-speed. Service records since 2003 will be included with the sale along with the Jaguar letter of authenticity, an owner's manual, transmission manual, and service book.

This car retains its correct C-Type head this Jaguar retains engine # #G7324-8S, which is the original unit for this car as per the data plate.

The seller has also included a few undercarriage photos in the gallery below and states that he is not aware of any notable rust, corrosion, or damage to the underside.

This looks to be a nicely executed XK140 that has had its mechanicals and cosmetics maintained to a high standard. The seller has enjoyed his 13 years with the car and hopes to find it a new home where it will continue to be maintained and driven as Jaguar intended.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
