Auction description:
Sale Date: 31st October 2012
Lot Number: 24
1958 Jaguar XK150 3.4 Litre Fixed Head Coupe
Not Sold

Reg Number: KAS 560
Chassis Number: S824564DN
Engine Number: V4786-8
Cc: 3442
Body Colour: Oxford Blue
Trim Colour: Pale Grey
MOT ExpiryDate: April 2013

The sale car is a 3.4-litre Fixed Head Coupe with Oxford Blue bodywork and a contrasting Pale Grey leather interior. It is a right-hand drive, home market example that was supplied new to distributor Rossleigh of Edinburgh in July 1958 and equipped with manual overdrive transmission. The vendor's view of 'KAS 560' is that the engine, gearbox and interior are "good", the bodywork "average/good", and the paintwork "average". The Jaguar's odometer currently displays an unwarranted 47,000 miles and the MOT will last into April next year.

We have managed to bring you many interesting discoveries over the years and some time ago we sold a XK150 Jaguar fixed head coupe which was a wonderfully untouched barn discovery that had been dry stored in barn since 1981. It had remained unused with its 3442cc six-cylinder engine and manual four-speed transmission in the hope that the owner would get round to restoring it. He didn't so it was sold but the new owner has restored it completely and what a job he has done.
It was such a superb, untouched example, even the spare wheel had not been used, that it was ideal for restoration and coupled to that it has the valuable registration number of KGR 2. During its extensive refurbishment, it has had completely new upholstery in Connolly leather, a new headlining, new tyres, a bare metal re-spray and the engine has been dismantled and checked by a specialist.
In the folder accompanying the car there are receipts for over ú9000 for work undertaken since June last year. On top of that it has received a new leather upholstery and headlining and we are informed that it drives beautifully. Here then we have one of the most desirable Jaguars of all time which has all the attributes one could hope for and the fixed head examples are now as sought after as their open-topped brothers.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
