Lot 1960
Description:
1959 Jaguar XK150 Coupe
Reg. no. BSL 196
Chassis no. S835344DN
Engine no. V31698

This smart dark green example was acquired by the vendor in 2001, previously to that the car received a lot of work including the conversion to right-hand-drive. The main element not restored at that time was the engine. In its current ownership the engine has been completely rebuilt by Peter Rodwell of Cornwall. Since then new shock absorbers, new wheels and new Blockley tyres have been fitted. We are told that the car has always performed well, turning heads wherever it went. It is now reluctantly being offered due to recent lack of use and there is a file of paperwork that includes a handbook and various bills including one for the engine (approximately £7,000). There are also a selection of old MOTs, old tax discs and sundry correspondence. This is a sound and useable motor car that any potential buyer wouldn't be afraid to use and enjoy

Extra details and estimates:
£50,000 - 60,000

This delightful matching numbers XK150 finished in Carmen Red with black interior trim was distributed by Jaguar cars, New York on the 20th March 1958, with its first owner being a Mr. Richard Piper according to its Jaguar Production Record Certificate. Brought back to the UK 25 years ago this car then stayed in single ownership until recently.

Recently subject to light restoration including work completed to the wire wheels, new tyres fitted, stainless steel exhaust and carburettors reconditioned. The XK150 is said to be in superb condition but the current owner and an independent report by a Jaguar specialist notes that 'the interior is very tidy, leather good, head lining good, dashboard good. The car drives well and pulls strongly, with oil pressure when hot 40psi at idle 60psi at 2000RPM.'

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
