Auction ended as sold for $32,500 after 8 bids, seller xk54

Sellers description:
1957 JAGUAR XK140 FIXED HEAD COUPE. Recently removed from nearly 25 years of dry storage. Excellent restoration project that is 95% complete including the rare windscreen and rear window chrome trim pieces so often lost. The engine turns freely but no attempt has been made to start the engine. The car rolls easily as the brake shoes have been removed and stowed. The car requires a full restoration in all respects and is very solid and complete, missing only minor interior pieces. There is minor rust in the rear dogleg areas typical of XK cars, but the main sills, floors and boot compartment floor are solid as well as the chassis. The original engine to the car was removed many years ago and is currently fitted with an XK150 engine from 1958 or 1959. The original XK140 close ratio standard gearbox is still fitted to the car. The successful bidder on this auction will have the option to purchase an original XK140 gearbox with Laycock overdrive for an additional $1000 if so desired. This is an excellent opportunity to purchase a sound, unrestored XK car for restoration or racing. The successful bidder must submit a $200 deposit within 24 hours of auction end and the balance by wire transfer or cashiers check within 72 hours of auction end. All logistics in connection with transport of the car after purchase rests solely with the buyer. Inquiries as to the reserve amount will be ignored. Please ask any questions prior to placing bids.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
