This car was supplied new by Rossleigh to Hartley Whyte of Whyte and Mackay whisky and then acquired by Bill Bryson, general manager of Rossleigh, Edinburgh. The Daily Record has a lovely picture by Bill Henderson of Hartley Whyte competing in it in the 1953 Highland Three-Day Rally. I am surprised that the car needed to be "restored".

I may be inaccurate as regards Rossleigh having supplied this car, Bill Bryson always stated that "he" sold it to Hartley Whyte, but it was possibly not through Rossleigh.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
