Car to be at auction 12/10

    Auction description:
TRUE GREATS, Royal Horticultural Halls, London
    Tuesday 7th December 2010
    Royal Horticultural Halls
    Elverton Street, Westminster, SW1P 2PE

    1951 Jaguar XK120 Roadster
    Lot 748
    Registration Number: LXW 984
    Chassis Number: 660634
    Estimate: £50,000- £62,000

Dry stored since June 1976, this original right hand drive xk120 Roadster was delivered new by Henly Ltd on the 5th February 1951. In the last year it has been subject to a good deal of high standard restoration work, including a respray back to the correct period colour of British Racing Green. The matching Parchment Beige interior presents LXW984 in a highly desirable colour combination. Recent work also includes a popular upgrade to XK150 front discs and pads, a new water pump, together with a new stainless steel fuel tank and pump.

Supplied with an extensive file of bills, a Heritage Certificate, UK V5 and current MoT until July 2011, this wonderful car, groundbreaking when new, is probably as impressive now as it ever was. Fresh from a recent service, LXW984 is offered with a very realistic reserve.

    Outcome NOT SOLD

This XK120 Roadster (not OTS) has undergone a complete mechanical overhaul whilst maintaining all of its wonderful originality with the exclusion of the radiator. The car had it's original engine replaced a short time after manufacture by Jaguar. This change is recorded on it's Jaguar Heritage certificate.

    New Owner - May 2015

Car continues to be very sensitively modernised - as it looks and feels very orginal/period.

Some of the changes / jobs done have been:

    - New Dynalite "+Earth" - Dynamo/Alternator
    - New Dynalite Regulator
    - All new fuses
    - New Dunlop Crossply RS5 Period-Type Tyre- All Around
    - Full Evans Coolant Fluid Change Process with Classic Cool 180 fill
    - Comprehensive Gearbox, differential and engine flush with 2 oil changes to remove any old oils and residue
    - All New Oils and Active8 Friction Additive: Engine, gearbox & Diff.
    - New N5C Spark Plugs
    - Full (Bilt Hamber) rust proofing of all cavities
    - New Petrol tank fille hose (reinforced silicone - ASH)
    - New Batteries
    - New Front Discs (early Round pad XK150's)
    - New Round Pads
    - New Fan Belt
    - Breather Pipe Filter Fitted
    - Burlen "Stay-Up" Floats fitted in Carb Floating Chamber
    - Complete Clean and Tune-up of twin carburetor, incl Damper oil change, idle screws, etc
    - New Front chrome wheel caps and Jaguar period badges
    - Full and multiple "Liquid Leather" treatment to hide
    - All hose clips unrated to Stainless

All in, this is a remarkable example of an early post "All-Alluminium" model with chrome side lights, no front wing vents and the unique weaving of ignition leads under the inlet manifold (made like this as Wlliam Lyons did not want to detract fromt he beauty of the brand new XK engine).

The car starts on the button, accelerate eagerly and once mastered, the excellent Moss gearbox is a joy to use.

Many years of joyful ownership await!

LXW 984 won the final Goodwood "Best in Show" at the 2016 Goodwood Revival Meeting. Selected by Sir Stirling Moss amongst hundreds of entries, this beautiful example of an early (partly steel) XK120 OTS won on the day by popular vote and against a stunning array of famous classic cars.

LXW was also chosen for the Jaguar Enthusiasts Club's Royal Windsor Jaguar Festival in May 2017 as car number 13 (out of 250). Showed to HRH Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, on The Quadrangle of Windsor Castle. A beautiful photo of the car and its glamourous occupants was also chosen as one of two Getty Images for the coverage of THE Award-winning classic car event of 2017.
