1/21/06 Car offered for sale at:
www.classicdriver.fr/uk/find/4000.asp

Sellers description:
The car was supplied to its first owner in Derbyshire, via the Leicester-based agents Sanderson-Holmes Ltd, and was registered CRC 919 on November 2, 1951. Full subsequent ownership history is no longer available, however the car was in regular usage by a succession of enthusiasts until purchased by the current owner in 1989, who bought it after searching in vain for the original car his own father had owned in 1951. It was the nearest in sequence of age and chassis number that he could find, so that he could have it restored in the image of the car he remembered as a child. To this end he took it to the established renowned restoration specialists Mill Lane Engineering Ltd, where it was subjected to the most painstaking restoration to the utmost specification of the original car, as it would have been delivered by the factory dealer. This entailed a complete strip down and nut and bolt restoration of every component part, re-assembled and completed at no expense spared, for which a comprehensive documentary file exists detailing every expenditure and process involved in the rebuild, with costs totalling well over £85,000. On completion the car was refinished in black cellulose with brown and tan trim, using finest Connolly hides to the exact specification of his father’s car, and in the process utilising the original build specification according to factory data, supplied by the works. The appearance is standard externally, the car having steel disc wheels, with chrome plated and matching black painted hub caps, rear wheel spats, single pipe exhaust system, period dashboard instrumentation, and upholstery to factory first specification as well. Minor additional exceptions of the owner’s personal choice include 8:1 compression cylinder head, electric radiator fan to assist cooling in modern traffic, and the addition of an expensive, yet simple power steering system, which is so cleverly conceived and incorporated so as not to be noticeable, and can be switched on or off electrically. Alternatively, it can be removed altogether very simply. A new hood, tonneau and sidescreens all in original pattern “double duck” canvas, not to mention numerous coats of paint, conspire with every attention to detail to produce this car which is authentic in every respect, and comparing its appearance with those photographs of contemporaneous advertising and sales brochures, purport to show this superb example as an exceptional motor car in every way. Since the restoration, which took nearly two years to complete, the car has been used very sparingly for a few club events and local shows, so that it has yet to pass 2,000 miles in the 12 years back on the road.

1951 Jaguar XK120 Roadster
Lot 1
Registration Number: CRC 919
Chassis Number: 660930
Estimate:£65,000 - £75,000
This fabulous XK120 Roadster was supplied to its first owner in Derbyshire via Leicester based agents Sanderson-Holmes Ltd. And was registered CRC 919 on November 2nd 1951. The car was in regular use by a succession of enthusiasts and in 1989 was purchased by the previous owner who bought it after searching in vain for the original car his father had owned in ’51. The then owner commissioned specialists Mill Lane Engineering to restore the car in 1990 where it was subjected to the most painstaking restoration to the utmost specification of the original car as delivered from the factory. This entailed a complete strip down and nut and bolt restoration of every component, re assembled and completed at no expense spared for which a comprehensive history file exists detailing every expenditure and process involved in the rebuild with costs totalling over £85,000. On completion the car was finished in black with brown and tan trim using the finest Connolly hides and in the process utilising the original build specification according to factory data supplied by the works. The appearance externally is standard with steel disc wheels, rear-wheel spats, single pip exhaust and period dash board instrumentation.

Minor additional exceptions is an 8.1 compression head, electric radiator fan to assist cooling in modern traffic and the addition of an expensive yet simple power steering system which is so cleverly conceived and incorporated so as not to be noticeable and can be switched on or off electronically or alternatively can be removed altogether very simply. A new hood, tonneau and side screens are all in the original pattern ‘double-duck’ canvas finish of the car which make it a superb example and an exceptional motor car in every way. Since the restoration the car has been used sparingly for a few club events and has covered less than 10,000 miles in the 10 years it’s been back on the road. Purchased by the current owner in April 2006, the car is still in excellent condition as it left the Mill Lane Engineering. Supplied with an MoT certificate valid until June 2011, a V5 document and the aforementioned bills, this car stands as a true testament to the original design and concept as available in 1951.

www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk/jaguar/xk120/302953

Seller's description:

This beautifully presented UK Home Market Jaguar XK120 was supplied new by Leicester based agents Sanderson-Holmes Limited and registered CRC 919 on November 2nd 1951. The XK120 spent its early life in Derbyshire in regular use but by the late 1970's the car was no longer taxed and off the road. In 1984, the XK re-appeared in Norwich and four years later in 1988 it was sold by Mill Lane Engineering Ltd in need of restoration to a Surrey based enthusiast. The new owner commissioned Mill Lane Engineering Ltd to carry out top class full nut and bolt restoration that cost in the region of 88,000. The XK had a no expense spared rebuild that saw every componenet removed, replaced or re-conditioned and a superbly well documented invoice file and photographic record details the work. The bodyshell of CRC 919 was taken back to bare metal and photographs confirm the car had the most superb, straight bodyshell. The body was prepared and re-painted in Black cellulose paint and the interior re-trimmed with the correct pattern seats finished in Brown and Tan using the finest Connolly hides. The XK was built up to present as a total standard car with original steel wheels with correct painted hub caps, rear wheel spats, single pipe exhaust system, correct period dashboard instrumentation and a factory specification interior as mentioned above. CRC 919 was completeley rebuilt mechanically and additioned upgrades included an 8:1 compression cylinder head and electric fan. The XK120 was completed with a brand new double duck hood, sidescreens and tonneau cover. After two years of careful, diligent work, the XK was completed to an exceptional standard and over the next fifteen years covered almost 2000 miles, used sparingly for club events and local shows. After a total of 17 years with one owner, the XK changed hands and was soon to be owned by a London based Investment Bank in Burlington Street, W1. In 2012 CRC 919 was purchased by its most recent owner and due to lack of use, was taken to Guy Broad for a program of re-commissioning work. This included rebuilding the carbs, replacing the lever arm shocks, fitting new tyres, rebuilding the steering box, idler and steering system, fitting new batteries, replacing the master cylinder, fitting new wheel cylinders, brake linings, new anti-roll bar bushes and fully servicing the car. Between 2015 and 2017, further mechanical work has been carried out to include an engine rebuild. Engine specialists stripped the unit, fully re-manufactured and balanced the engine and carried out a rear oil seal conversion. Whilst removed, the gearbox was treated to new front and rear oil seals and gaskets. Guy Broad supplied a new pedal box and front brake disc kit. In total, a further 15,000 has been spent on this XK120 to ensure its ready for regular use and long distance touring. Since this major overhaul work, the XK has covered just 500 miles and only 5000 have been completed since the late 1980's 88,000 full restoration. CRC 919 is now in a position to be enjoyed and is offered onto the market in strong mechanical order. The XK 3.4 engine is superb with excellent compressions and oil pressure, it performs superbly and the correct four speed Moss gearbox is lovely to use. The XK handles, steers and brakes superbly and is driving beautifully. Almost 30 years on from completion of the rebuild, CRC 919 presents wonderfully and this is down to careful use, good storage and careful ownership. The Black paintwork gleams, the bodyshell is superb with excellent gaps and the chrome work is still of an excellent standard. The interior now has a nicely aged finish to it, the weather gear is in excellent order and the engine bay and boot area present exceptionally well. This is a beautifully prepared and presented UK XK120 and having had its recent program of work, its superbly well sorted and ready to use and enjoy. Price: 119,995

We are delighted to be offering this striking and very elegant UK home market RHD XK120OTS on behalf of the present owner. First dispatched to Sanderson Holmes Ltd of Leicester in 1951 CRC919 was first registered on November 2nd 1951. In 1988 Mill Lane Engineering recommissioned the car with a full ‘nut and bolt, body off chassis’ restoration costing some £88, 000

Retaining its original spats and steel wheels CRC919 looks magnificent with superb cellulose gloss black paint and contrasting tan beige trim. The present owner purchased the car with some 2000 miles enjoyed since that Mill Lane work and further improved the car with subtle upgrades to brakes, suspension and cooling. All of this work by Guy Broad is detailed on the extensive history file as is a peddle box extension allowing taller drivers to enjoy this 120. Guy Broad further performed tuning and cylinder head work to enable the car to present outstandingly well today. As such a new owner will need to do nothing but enjoy this delightful elegant sporting XK120.

Presented with extensive history file detailing all maintenance work and current MOT showing just 6482 miles on the clock since the late 80’s restoration this XK120 has to be a consideration for any potential purchaser of a sporting icon of the 1950’s. We have had the pleasure of consigning many XK’s over the years and finding new homes for outstanding cars. This is no exception. The perfect blend of originality with performance and safety improvements. A truly fine automobile ready to enjoy
