Note above ebay auction is likely a typo as the photos of the car, pastel metallic blue, do not match its history.

This Jaguar XK120 Roadster is a comprehensively upgraded, track-prepared example of the elegant classic open-top British sports car, offered from long-term ownership.

Under the bonnet sits an upgraded 3.8-litre naturally aspirated straight-six, fed by triple Weber carburettors, now understood to produce up to 300bhp and driving the rear wheels via an E-Type-sourced four-speed synchro manual transmission.

This example was first registered in June 1950, and was imported to the UK from the US in 1998 before being restored and rebuilt by Jaguar specialist Guy Broad to compete in the JEC XK Challenge.

The odometer indicates 7,723 miles, though this is not warranted.

To prepare this example for use on the track it has been upgraded with chassis alterations to allow the engine to sit lower and further back in the car, a triple-plate race clutch, an E-Type-sourced four-speed synchro gearbox, suspension improvements, a Watts linkage, disc brakes all-round, aluminium doors and boot lid, and cockpit alterations to enlarge the driving position with a new pedal box fitted further into the footwell to allow for taller drivers.

This XK120 Roadster is finished in an elegant shade of silver with white number 33 racing roundels on the doors and boot lid, as well as Jaguar World Monthly and Jaguar Enthusiasts Club Racing decals.

Inside, the stripped-out cabin features a single Tillett moulded plastic bucket seat with a black synthetic suede headrest, a black dashboard, and wood panels in the footwells.

It rides on a set of 15-inch wire wheels with two-spoke knock-offs, shod in Dunlop Racing tyres.

The front and rear bumpers have been removed, and twin LED rear rain lights have been fitted as well as a racing fuel filler cap, twin aero screens, exterior kill switches, a single roll-over bar, a Schroth Racing six-point harness, a plumbed-in Lifeline fire extinguisher system, braided oil lines, an oil cooler, and an aluminium radiator.

The car is accompanied by a full record of major maintenance, two sets of wheels and tyres, and leather bucket seats and numberplates for conversion back to a road legal specification.

Specific notes from the seller include: a number of stone chips from race track gravel traps.

The seller is not aware of any mechanical or electrical faults.

The most recent maintenance was conducted in Spring 2022 by Adbury Engineering, which consisted of an engine oil and radiator fluid change, as well as a full spanner check before a track-day at Goodwood.

A full engine service was carried out in February 2018 by MRM Engineering, which also included a rear axle overhaul, the braking system and suspension overhauled, and the ignition timing carried out.

A full engine check and rebuild was carried out by Sigma Engineering in 2011, which also included a cooling system and gearbox clean and service.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
