Car has a buy it now price of $95,000 for 20 days. 81k miles. Washington, Pennsylvania

    Sellers description:

This Jaguar was once owned by Pulitzer Prize Recipient EDDIE ADAMS. It was sold at the 1998 Christies, Pebble Beach auction.

The vehicle is an elegant Silver with duotone blue leather interior. The Engine is a six cylinder in-line, double overhead camshaft, 3,422cc, 160bhp at 5,250rpm; Gearbox: 4-speed manual; Suspension: front - independent with double wishbones and longitudinal torsion bars, rear - live axle, semi-elliptic leaf springs; Brakes: hydraulic four wheel drum. Left hand drive.

The Jaguar XK 120 on offer here was once from the collection of Pulitzer Prize recipient, Eddie Adams. As a devoted collector of fine automobiles, Mr. Adams has always admired the beauty and sleekness of the XK 120. When the opportunity to purchase one finally arose, he did, predisposed to submitting the car to a comprehensive restoration. The restoration was begun in early 1995 and lasted over two years. During this time a complete nut and bolt, frame off rebuild was performed. Every item needing replacement or refurbishment was attended to and professionally refitted. The car was repainted its original silver color scheme and refitted with a new duotone blue leather interior, both are still in excellent condition. The car is described as running well, having been driven sparingly and having spent the majority of its time garaged. This XK 120 is a fine example of an automobile treasured by its owners and admirers alike for it strong engineering and beautiful sleek design and should be considered by both the novice and established collector accordingly.

The Chassis No. 670450. According to the information tag, the Engine No. is W 1862-8 (Was unable to see this number on the engine. Not sure where to look. A past description of this vehicle did state it was the correct matching number engine.) The overall condition of this vehicle is excellent. It does need a few little things to make it a 100 point vehicle again. It is very nice, but we can't say it's perfect. The vehicle is being sold with its Heritage Certificate from Jaguar.

    Lot #137084

This 1950 Jaguar XK120 roadster was previously owned by 1969 Pulitzer Prize–winning photographer Eddie Adams, who commissioned a refurbishment in the 1990s that involved repainting the car in silver and retrimming the interior in two-tone blue leather. Power comes from a 3.4-liter inline-six backed by a four-speed manual transmission, and additional equipment includes a split windshield, driving lights, fender-mounted side mirrors, wheel spats, body-color wheels, hubcaps, whitewall tires, and Smiths instrumentation. The car was acquired by the seller in 2013, and work performed in preparation for the sale included rebuilding the fuel pump and the dual SU carburetors as well as replacing the blue soft top, the right-rear wheel cylinder, and the spark plugs. This XK120 is now offered with a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, tools, extra paint, removable side curtains, recent service records, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

The XK120 debuted at the 33rd International Motor Exhibition at Earls Court in 1948 and was initially available only as a two-seat roadster. This example left the factory finished in silver, and the seller states that the body was removed from the chassis before a repaint during the aforementioned refurbishment, which was completed in the mid-1990s. The blue soft top was replaced in 2023, and other details include a split windshield, “tripod” headlights, driving lights, fender-mounted side mirrors, a split front bumper, rear bumperettes, and wheel spats.

Body-color 16″ steel wheels wear color-keyed hubcaps and are mounted with 6.00” BFGoodrich Silvertown whitewall tires. A matching spare is stored in a compartment located beneath the trunk. Braking is handled by four-wheel drums, and the right-rear wheel cylinder was replaced in 2023.

The seats are trimmed in two-tone blue leather, and the contrasting inserts feature vertical pleating. The color scheme carries over to the dashboard, and the perimeter of the cockpit is wrapped in dark blue upholstery. Bound carpets line the floors, and the car is equipped with lap belts.

The four-spoke steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, a reverse-sweep tachometer with an inset clock, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 82k miles, approximately 30 of which have been added under current ownership. True mileage is unknown.

The 3.4-liter DOHC inline-six is equipped with dual SU carburetors that were rebuilt in 2023 along with the fuel pump. The spark plugs and the engine oil were replaced in preparation for the sale.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The chassis is finished in black, and flaking paint is visible on the underside.

The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate indicates that the car was dispatched on July 21, 1950, for the North American export market and lists factory equipment and identification numbers.

A tool roll will accompany the vehicle along with side curtains and a can of extra silver paint.

The California title carries a “Title Only” notation.
