This 1951 Jaguar XK120 roadster was purchased by the seller in 2023 from its prior owner of 67 years, a span during which the car is said to have accompanied its owner, a State Department employee, to India, Pakistan, Iran, and Jordan. Refurbished in the 1990s, the car is powered by a 3.4-liter inline-six linked with a four-speed manual transmission and is finished in Pastel Blue over blue and white leather. Equipment includes dual SU carburetors, a dark blue convertible top, a split front windshield, chrome bumpers and bumperettes, front driving lights, 16″ steel wheels with hubcaps and bright trim rings, lap belts, a heater, and rear wheel spats. This XK120 roadster is now offered with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, the owner’s manual, a tonneau cover, side curtains, service records, fitted camel-skin luggage, and a clean Missouri title in the seller’s name.
Finished from the factory in Pastel Blue, the car was repainted in 1994, and exterior equipment includes a dark blue convertible top, a split front windshield, chrome front bumpers, front driving lights, rear wheel skirts, chrome rear bumperettes, and a polished dual-outlet exhaust. Various paint chips and scratches are visible.
Body-color 16″ steel wheels with hubcaps and bright trim rings are mounted with Coker Firestone wide-whitewall tires measuring 6.00-16. The car was factory equipped with an independent front suspension with telescopic-type hydraulic shock absorbers as well as semi-elliptical rear leaf springs and Girling hydraulic rear shock absorbers. The rear leaf springs and gaiters were replaced in 2001, and the seller describes the rear shocks as weak. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel drums.
Blue and white leather covers the seats, with coordinating upholstery over the other interior panels and surfaces. Amenities include lap belts, a heater, a Blaupunkt cassette stereo, a passenger-side grab handle, lap belts, door map pockets, and a dashboard-mounted rearview mirror. The clock and radio do not work.
The four-spoke steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer, a reverse-sweep 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset analog clock, and auxiliary gauges. The fuel-level gauge does not work. The five-digit odometer shows 41k miles, approximately 300 of which were added under current ownership. The speedometer was repaired in 1985, and true mileage is unknown.
The 3.4-liter DOHC inline-six features dual SU carburetors and was factory rated at 160 horsepower. Fluid services were preformed in October 2023, and the water pump, harmonic balancer, lower pulley, drive belt, and hoses were replaced in 2008. The stainless steel exhaust system dates to 2000.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. Various leaks are noted, as is underbody corrosion.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists factory colors and identification numbers along with the build date and distribution through Max Hoffman of New York.
