Auction description:
1951 Jaguar XK120 Roadster to Fast Road Specification
Registration Number: TBA Chassis Number: 671437
It is important not to confuse this XK120 with others of a lesser quality and the mechanical, technical and competition knowledge of the gentleman behind this project must not be underestimated. Trevor Groom has considerable experience racing XKs and knows how to get the best from a car. This particular example was bought in America in 2003 in order to specifically put together a specially built fast road specification XK. It was initially stripped and rebuilt over the ensuing five years to an extremely high standard. The engine is a 3.8 litre tuned unit with 1¾ carburettors by Dave Butcher and is mated to a four speed all synchromesh overdrive gearbox, fully rebuilt and transmitting through a 3.31 limited slip differential to the new chrome wire wheels and Vredestein rubber.
Braking takes the form of a specific pedal box assembly, separate front and rear cylinders with flexible competition brake lines feeding discs and three pot calipers all round. Fuel comes through Facet pumps with new lines via an all ally fuel tank and Le Mans filler sited on the rear three-quarters. The cockpit has also had the complete Trevor Treatment; interior trim superbly put together by Mick Turley with fine leather over special alloy bucket seats. The clocks and gauges are special build units, the windscreen is a short one and there is a full-split tonneau cover. A high torque starter and electronic ignition fires everything up and the resultant effect is superb. This is a very focused take on the original XK and would perform equally as well on the track as it would on the road.
