    Car was at auction 2/10
    www.classicauctions.co.uk/lotdetail.php

    Auction description:
    Lot : 37
    1952 Jaguar XK120 Roadster
    Estimate: SOLD for £44000
    Registration No: NAS 215
    Chassis No: 671958
    Engine No: W4331-8
    CC: 3442
    Colour: Red
    Trim Colour: Black
    MOT: Oct 2010
According to its accompanying Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Production Trace Certificate, this particular example left the famous Browns Lane factory bound for America on 11th March 1952. Imported via Max Hoffman's New York based distributorship and registered to Charles P Goggi Esq of Tryon Polk County, North Carolina the following year, the XK120 subsequently spent time in Rockdale County, Georgia. Repatriated to the UK during the early 1980s, the two-seater was treated to a very extensive restoration (including conversion from left- to right-hand drive) by David A.C. Royale & Co of County Durham some ten years later. Detailed invoices on file from 1990 - 1991 total approximately £36,000 and give an indication as to the thoroughness of the work. Aside from a further £3,500 spent on engine repairs in 1993, the Roadster appears to have needed little by way of expenditure over the last two decades. Finished in red with black leather upholstery, the Jaguar rides on smart chrome wire wheels and boasts such worthwhile upgrades as disc brakes and flashing indicators. An older restoration but one that seemingly belies its years, this gorgeous XK120 is offered for sale with history file and MOT certificate valid until October 2010.

Car was at auction Nov. 2011

    Auction description:
    The Walter Hayes Sale 2011
    1952 Jaguar XK120 Roadster
    Lot No.: 149
    Registration: NAS 215
    Chassis Number: 671958
    Engine Number: W4221-8
    CC: 3442cc
    Year of Manufacture: 1952
    Sold for (£): Unsold

This car, chassis 671958 does not disappoint. Boasting a history file 5 inches thick, there are receipts for restoration and service works totalling more than £50,000. The most recent being in May 2011 for a £5,000 engine rebuild in Gloucestershire. Originally exported to America in March 1952, this car is reported to have lived along the East Coast USA in the hands of few owners before being repatriated back to the UK circa 1985.

Respected craftsmen David A.C Royle & Co of County Durham were first enlisted in the early 1990s to extensively restore 'NAS 215' to original glory and convert from left to righthand drive as was sensible for use. Detailed invoices on file from 1990 - 1991 total approximately £36,000 and give an indication as to the thoroughness of the work undertaken. The same firm would play a regular part in the preservation and general service of this important roadster with many more invoices spanning several years documented in the history file.

Engine repairs of £3,500 in 1993 have been superseded by the most recent rebuild in May 2011, but both works confirm the dedication that has gone to ensuring this car remains one of the finest examples available. Some purists may criticise the conversion from lefthand drive to right, but this is a matter of personal opinion and many would argue that modern upgrades and conversions simply serve to keep classic cars like this on the roads. Other sensible, yet subtle, modifications include Coopercraft disc brakes and flashing indicators.

Resplendent in red coachwork with black leather upholstery and bespoke fitting weather gear, this Jaguar sits on smart chrome wire wheels and will no doubt bring great pleasure to its new owners. Offered at sensible estimation, 'NAS 215' has that envious history file we've discussed and MoT test certificate valid until January 2012.

    Lot 268
    1952 Jaguar XK120 Roadster
    Registration no. NAS 215
    Chassis no. 671958
    Engine no. W4221-8
    Estimate: £65,000 - 75,000 / €76,000 - 88,000 / US$ 100,000 - 120,000

Note: the engine number quoted above is different from the one already mentioned in the database. Which is right?

I suspect the later entry W4221-8 is correct for the motor number. That has been used twice, the other only once. Probably a misread.

    Additional description from above auction:
This XK120's accompanying Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate states that it was built in left-hand drive form in March 1952 and despatched to Jaguar's distributor Hoffman in New York, USA. It was delivered finished in Pastel Green with Suede Green interior trim. The earliest record on file is a copy of a State of North Carolina Certificate of Title issued on 2nd February 1953 to one Charles E Goggi of Tryon, NC who may well have been its first owner. In July 1982, the Jaguar was purchased from Mr Goggi by one E Dixon-Barker (a Middlesborough resident) and brought to the UK (bill of sale on file).

In 1990 David Royle & Co of County Durham undertook a complete 'last nut and bolt' rebuild, as evidenced by bills on file totalling over £40,000. Carried out to concours standards, the work included an engine rebuild, new wheels, etc, etc. Mr Dixon-Barker then sold the XK to Paul Gibson who entrusted Royle with converting it to right-hand drive, upgrading the brakes and fitting a C-Type cylinder head in 2003 (bills available). The next owner, Jason Granite, had the car maintained regardless of cost by Stratstone Jaguar, who serviced it from 2003 to 2007. In 2010 'NAS 215' was bought by Steve Murphy who had the engine rebuilt by Brian Windle in May 2011 and then sent the car to Guy Broad to be returned to concours condition, the work being completed in November 2011 at a cost of £2,600.

The current vendor, a Bugatti Owners' Club member, bought the Jaguar from Steve Murphy (since deceased). While in the present ownership the car has been well maintained and used, including a tour of North America in November 2012. A new starter ring gear and clutch were fitted in December 2012, and in March 2013 a service was carried out by Auto Classico of Bristol. This service included an engine tune, suspension adjustment and fitting a new front bumper. Offered with the aforementioned documentation, old-style logbook, current road fund licence and Swansea V5C, this beautiful XK120 drives superbly, requires nothing and is ready to use.

A car with this registration number NAS215 was sold by Mathewsons in July 2022 for £79,000. It has now been converted to RHD. Must be the same car as the front indicators attached to the bumpers are the same as those in the above photos.
