This 1953 Jaguar XK120 Roadster was completed on May 5, 1953 and initially distributed to the US through the Hoffman Motor Company of New York City. The car is finished in green over green leather upholstery and is powered by a 3.4-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a tan soft top and side curtains, Lucas driving lamps, fender-mounted side mirrors, and 16″ steel wheels. It was acquired by the selling dealer in 2021, and the dual SU carburetors were rebuilt in preparation for the sale. This XK120 is now offered in Massachusetts with a service manual, a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, and a clean Ohio title.
The car left the factory finished in Pastel Green and is believed to have been repainted some time ago. Equipment includes a tan soft top and removable side curtains, along with Lucas driving lamps, fender-mounted side mirrors, and a split windshield frame. Paint cracks and touch-ups are visible.
Color-keyed 16” steel wheels wear chrome trim rings and painted hubcaps, and they are mounted with older Lester Tire Co. whitewall tires that may require replacement. A matching spare is stowed under a shelf in the trunk. Braking is provided by four-wheel drums.
The seats are trimmed in green leather with a color-coordinated dash pad, door panels, and carpeting.
The four-spoke steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 120-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm reverse-sweep tachometer with an inset clock, and gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature as well as a Lucas ammeter. The five-digit odometer shows 82k miles, approximately 10 of which were added by the selling dealer.
The 3.4-liter inline-six was factory-rated at 180 horsepower and 203 lb-ft of torque. Service in preparation for the sale included rebuilding the dual SU carburetors, replacing the spark plugs, and changing the oil.
Engine number W8347-8 stamped on the cylinder head matches the number that is printed on the Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate shown below and stamped on both the brass commission plate and the engine block.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual gearbox.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate lists factory serial numbers and colors, a manufacture date of May 5, 1953, dispatch to the US six days later, and distribution through the Hoffman Motor Company of New York City.
