A LITTLE ABOUT THE SEVEN GABLES MOTOR GARAGE LTD
Although operated on a small scale by the owner Gary Seraphinoff, The Seven Gables Motor Garage Ltd located in the Detroit suburb of Bloomfield Hills has a very large amount of vintage British motoring enthusiasm. Passionate for over a half century, Gary carries a fair amount of experience in dealing with these motorcars. Being a hobby as much as it is a small business, Gary sells vintage vehicles and the spares for these classics. In addition to having a small collection of British motorcars with the focus being Jaguar XK120's as well as his wife Kathy's, someday to be on the road again, MG-TD. Located at "Seven Gables", the family home, Gary has sold vintage spares around the globe and offers unsurpassed care doing it. 1954 JAGUAR XK120 - OPEN TWO SEATER / ROADSTER - !00% MATCHING NUMBERS - PARTIALLY FINISHED PROJECT
Shown here on Hemmings, I am representing a long time friend and offering his beloved project XK120. This project ticks all the right boxes for an XK120 project car. Here is a partial list of some of the attributes and spare parts for this car:
1) All of the numbers match (engine, gearbox, body and chassis) the original data plate. These numbers match the Jaguar Heritage Certificate the owner has. It was originally Red with a Biscuit interior and I believe a Tan hood (top). I do not have the Heritage Certificate myself but the Hood color can be confirmed with the owner. The owner has a clear title to the car.
2) The XK was dispatched from Hornburg Jaguar in Los Angeles, California and although not totally rust free, the body and chassis reflects an easy life with very little rust repair on the body needed. If you know these cars, you will see in the photos how minor the rust issues are and that there are areas that are RARELY as rust free as on this XK120. I believe that this XK even has its original sills. One indicator of a really well preserved XK120 body is the condition of the bootlid: Its as solid as a rock with the wood framing and the alloy skin tacked over it as solid as can be. I have over half a dozen project XK120s and none of my cars are as overall rust free as this, but then I live in the salty Midwest. The car did migrate to the Michigan area for a time and that is where my friend found it years ago. The chassis appears to be in really nice condition with no rotted areas and I believe that, importantly, this chassis has had no accident damage. As I recall from my friend this XK120 has been off the road for many decades so naturally that helped preserve it.
3) The friend says that the engine was rebuilt and set aside after rebuilding. At that time the gearbox had also been refurbished. These rebuilds contribute to the value overall.
4) The seats have been reupholstered in Biscuit leather per the original specification with the correct material on the seat backs. The seats are wrapped in plastic and are well preserved. The dash has been covered in the same matching hides. There were four hides purchased and there is extra hide to do other areas in matching leather if desired. There is a new carpet set and the rear boot area has the correct material for the boot floor.
5) The two side curtains have been rebuilt/restored with new cloth and windows. The top (hood) has a new back window. There is not a hood (top) and the owner can decide if he wants Black or Tan as a choice. The hood frame is complete down to the front wood tack rail and a new chrome latch set.
6) A complete new chrome windscreen assembly with new frames, side posts and middle post
7) New Old Stock or Reproduction Chrome: Head lamps (still in the original N.O.S. Lucas boxes), Tail Lights, Reverse Light Assembly, Bumpers and Grille
8) New Cloth Wrapped Wiring Harness
9) New 54 Spoke Dayton Wire Wheels with very good tires.
10) New Exhaust System
11) New Clutch Assembly
12) Reconditioned Fuel Tank
13) New Ball Joints for the front end
14) New Windscreen Washer Jar assembly and New Voltage Regulator
15) In addition to the Dash Assembly having been recovered with new leather, the dash is completely put back together and refurbished. The instruments are refurbished and all the switches are cleaned and re-installed
16) New Wooden Floorboards for cockpit
17) Original Jack and Ratchet Handle
18) There are other new parts and features I have not mentioned but the owner can show you on inspection
Overall, this a great opprotunity to restore an XK120 SE Open Two Seater to your level of completion. Its very hard to find a really nice XK120 project that also has all matching numbers and is originally the desirable Red with Biscuit. The extra rebuilt and new parts add a great deal to the value of this XK120. The owner wants to sell the car this year so please feel free to make a reasonable offer.
