Vehicle Description

American Classic Cars is selling a 1952 Jaguar XK120 drophead convertible. This car, obviously, needs complete restoration. It is a very solid, rust free car on which the restoration was started and then stopped about five years ago.

It will be a beautiful car when finished and if it doesn’t sell this month here, we will probably start a full restoration on it. These cars are worth a great deal of money when finished. Here is a chance to pick up a car for very little money which will have a very nice return.

I have included today's NADA value for the car when restored. I have also put a very reasonable Buy It Now price on the car.

The car was originally cream with red leather, one of the most desirable color combinations of the 1950s. The motor and transmission are suspect but complete and should be rebuilt just in case.

The car is complete and even the grille is all there. There should be very minimal parts-chasing on this restoration. The wood will have to be fabricated, of course, as it needs replacement.

The car has the following options:

· Original Jaguar 3.4 Six-Cylinder Engine

· 4-Speed Manual Transmission.

· Full Leather Interior.

The pictures tell the story; and once this car is restored with new paint and interior, it will give its new owner years of value and performance.

All numbers match. I purchased this car recently with the intent to restore it, but have too many restoration projects at this time so must let it go. I was told by the previous owner that the engine and transmission were rebuilt but have not verified this. You are welcome to come and examine the car and all its components. The frame is very clean with only some surface rust present. The body appears to be all there and is in primer. The panels fit well and the gaps are straight and correct. All chrome is there and the interior is complete minus the door panels, seats and the top. The top frame is there. This is a valuable car when finished and they are very difficult to find in restorable, solid condition as this one is. Please call or email with questions or better yet come and see the car, which is located in Woonsocket, RI, about 20 minutes from Providence RI or 1 hour from Boston, MA. The 5th car to be built and the earliest known unless 670001 is still with us in UK as rumoured. An important discovery with a matching engine. This is one of only 7 LHD DHC cars built in the month of February 1953. The only other survivor is 670010 in Colorado USA

Die XK 120 Serie gilt als Kultobjekt und Inbegriff eleganter Sportwagen. Die Typbezeichnung war geschwindigkeitsbezogen und galt für 120 mph, also über 190 km/h. Die XKs sollten in einer kleinen Sportwagenserie als Test-Fahrzeuge für den neuen, inzwischen ruhmreichen XK-Motor der Big Saloons, die in diesem Geschwindigkeitsbereich angesiedelt waren, genutzt werden. Es kam ganz anders. Tatsächlich gelang Jaguars Testdriver Norman Dewis 1953 in Jebbeke, mit einem normalen XK 120 und leichten, als Extras erhältlichen, aerodynamischen Verkleidungen, die sagenhafte Geschwindigkeit von 277 Stundenkilometern. Der XK 120 avancierte dadurch nicht nur zum schnellsten Serienwagen der Welt, sondern auch zum "must have" von Clark Gable, Humphrey Bogart, Randolph Scott und vielen, vielen anderen Hollywoodgrößen, Prominenten und Rennfahrern. Von 12.059 XK 120 wurden nur 1.472 DHC, LHD produziert, beginnend mit 677001. 677005 ist wohl das früheste/älteste noch existierende Fahrzeug dieser seltenen Serie und eines der nur 7 im Februar 1953 gebauten. Erstauslieferung erfolgte über Hoffmann, New York, am 28th of April 1953 nach Texas. Seit 1983 letzter Besitzer in Texas. Dieses wunderbare Sammlerstück mit Heritage Trust Certificate wurde im Oktober 2007 zur Restauration durch Fachbetriebe und Spezialisten nach Deutschland geholt. This very early XK 120 DHC, was the 5th car made of this model was exported - as were so many others - to the US and sold to its 1st. owner via Hoffmann New York on 23.4.1953 in Texas, as can be seen from the Heritage Trust Certificate. In 2007 the car came to Germany and was the subject of a nut and bolt restoration by German specialists.

The chassis was stripped to bare metal as was the body with appropriate repairs where needed. The car received a new wiring loom and the whole electric system was also renewed. All chrome parts were re-chromed.

A new brake system with discs to the front was installed. The engine and the carburettors, the gearbox was totally rebuilt at the same time. All instruments were restored, a special radiator with Kenlow fan was installed, new shock absorbers fitted and a stainless steel exhaust system and chrome wire wheels were added. This superb XK 120 has German historic registration documents and comes with an expert evidence, valuing it at €145.000,--.

Finished in traditional old English white with a red interior, this rare and classic Jaguar should not be missed.
