This is an all numbers matching car, a very straight and very solid, and a very unmolested 120 XK Jaguar….
After many years of storage I am selling my wonderful project XK 120 Drop Head Coupe.
I fabricated an all alloy hard top which is aircraft riveted together in the shape and form of an original fabric hood, this was to be put in place to replace the fabric element of the aged hood, the Alloy hood will require some finishing by the new owner.
Prior to it being in mine and a friends ownership the car had sat in a dry state of America for many years in a dealership showroom.
The XK has sat in a dehumidified barn here in Guernsey since and its a very solid and super straight car, you'll notice the boot skin being an exception, but to find an XK this solid and straight in its original paint is most definitely the way to buy a project car.
Interior woodwork has lost much of its veneer faces due to heat and sunshine, the hard wood base which was below is solid and seems to be there, the hood fabric is non existent as I mentioned above, but the metal frame structure and hood clamps seem to be there, the seat bases and coverings have been lost to time, but again the metal framework and runners are there, the mechanicals of the vehicle all seem to be there, even the exhaust looks in reasonable order for its age some holes on the rear pipe. It does not have a fuel tank.
I purchased it from a friend local to me who imported it from America, he said he had it running once it was back here in Guernsey, which I will try to achieve again at some point. As you can see in the photos one half side of the windscreen is missing along with a couple of its screen chromes and the rear number plate plinth and wooden boot floor panels are also missing too. In the scope of these 50's Jags, the bodywork is a key area that can cost a pretty penny to correct and is rarely as good as the original. The speedo and centre dash and centre drawer are there, the speedo is reading in the 28k's miles.
Come see the car, it's a truly amazing project a car I had bought with a view to building into an Oily Rag car as a bit of a daily hack, but sadly my days of coach building and tinkering on my classics has come to an end with arthritis appearing in my hands, so I won't be finishing the panel work of the roof, the next person can do this with simple hand tools and patience. I sold another of my XKs recently too, as I am finding it frustrating not being able to play cars so much. Don't be put off by it being in Guernsey, it is Guernsey registered so is a simple task to get registered on to UK plates, shipping is easy from here too, or the buyer can simply come and collect it on a trailer, the port is in eyes view of my home and the car is in easy access. I have a ramp too should the buyer wish to inspect the underside.
