I used to own a xk 140 ots rhd in BRG with red interior. I purchased it from someone in the Kingston on Thames district in either 1964 or 1965 and sold it in Barnard Castle County Durham with a broken timing chain which I could not afford to fix in probably 1967 for ( aaaaargh)100 pounds Stirling. I was only about 22 at the time and unfortunately did not truly realise what I had. All I knew was that it was extremely fast and agile and made the most glorious sound from the racing pipes the previous owner had fitted. I cannot remember the number plate and certainly not chassis or engine numbers. These were the days of the old buff log book and, who knows, that might still be around somewhere. My name is Charles David Fowler and the log book would have shown a Kings Road, Rayners Lane, Middlesex address. I still pine longingly for that car and curse the stupidity of my youth and would love to know what happened to it after it left my life. If any of your members are able to help I would be very grateful. These days I have gone German with a 1987 Porsche 911 cabriolet ( still like the wind in my hair) which is cared for with great respect and is polished and nurtured just like I should have done with the Jag and never did.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
