A very special XK-140 Fixed-Head Coupe (FHC), this car (chassis number 804010) was the official 1955 Melbourne Motor Show car for Jaguar and has had only three owners from new.

With the current owner acquiring it in 1996, the highly original XK-140 had many components (including the 3.4l engine, gearbox, trim, bumpers, spats and brakes) removed for storage in order for the vehicle to be prepared for tarmac rallying, where it has won the 'Touring Classic' class in Targa Tasmania. This very competitive classic has been meticulously prepared and maintained by leading British car specialist Graeme Lord Automotive.

Now running a modified 3.8l engine on triple 45mm carburettors (producing 230bhp on pump fuel), it also has a close-ratio Moss-type 'box and runs ventilated front disc brakes.

All original parts are included in the sale of this wonderfully historic machine if you are inclined to restore it back to its original condition, along with the fully rebuilt 3.4l engine. It comes freshly serviced and with a new wiring loom recently installed.

Offered with 12 months NSW registration, this XK-140 would suit collectors and club racers alike.

This carcass purchased out of Queensland by Richard Crawshay and Gavin King in 1996 in very original condition and driven from Queensland to Sydney by Gavin King. The car had a very rare early car feature that the filler section used in an XK140 bonnet was chrome and not painted like later cars. Sold to Brian Titheradge of Sydney who modified it for use in events such as Targa Tasmania and Classic Adelaide rally. The entry above is correct, the car sold to Fearon Kayoko (who also owned until recently XK120 660641) Japan in 2011, but unfortunately the car could not be road registered there due to the modifications so Fearon took the car to the UK for it to be sold. The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
