    Auction description:
    Silverstone Classic Sale
1955 Jaguar XK140 Fixed Head Coupe
    Lot No.: 136
    Registration: 140 FLF
    Chassis Number: 804183
    Engine Number: 1590-8
    Number of cylinders: 6
    CC: 3400
    Year of Manufacture: 1955
    Estimate (£): 28,000 - 32,000

This particular XK140 is an original right-hand drive fixed head coupe manufactured in 1955 and is one of only 842 examples manufactured for the UK market. Finished in Old English White with red leather interior, the car is supplied with a recent MoT test certificate, heritage certificate and the extremely desirable number plate 140 FLF. Although the paintwork is thinning from an older re-spray, chassis number 804183 retains a degree of originality with good panel fit and an excellent interior. Undoubtedly, this XK140 represents superb value for money and would make an excellent useable classic.

This Jaguar XK140 Fixedhead Coupé was first registered on 11th June 1955 and is an original righthand drive model, only 842 examples were manufactured for the UK market, of which this is a survivor. Finished in Old English White with a contrasting red leather trim, 140 FLF is supplied with a V5 registration document and MoT test certificate valid until 19th June 2013. Presented in good order, this XK140 represents extremely good value for money and benefits from not only being a righthand drive model but also the more desirable fixedhead coupé variant. Still sitting on its original steel wheels, this represents a highly useable and interesting classic Jaguar.

    Sold - £31,080

    Number of cylinders: 6
    CC: 3781cc
    Year of Manufacture: 1955
    Estimate (£): 43,000 - 47,000
This particular XK140 is an original right-hand drive fixed head coupe manufactured in 1955 and is one of only 842 examples manufactured for the UK market. First registered on June 11th 1955 by Litherland Motors of Liverpool and sold to a Mr Thomas Melling of Southport. Finished in the classic combination of Old English White with contrasting red leather trim and red carpets. The car has just had an extensive overhaul by a leading marque specialist.

Works carried out include: Bodywork; Doors, bonnet and boot lid re-fitted to produce excellent shut lines. Entire body fully prepared, primed and painted, including door shuts, engine bay and wheels. Brightwork polished and replaced where necessary. Body cavities wax injected and new body sealing rubbers fitted all around.
Mechanicals; Brakes serviced, Gearbox rebuilt, Oil & filters changed (Oil pressure is excellent we are told). Engine bay wiring fully overhauled. Cylinder block, head and radiator cleaned and painted. Cam covers and carburettor dash pots polished. Interior Seats re-connollised and carpets cleaned. It should be noted that at some stage in the car's history a stronger more powerfull 3.8 litre engine from the later XK150 has been fitted.

This car is in excellent condition and is sold with a new MOT certificate (Oct 2014) and a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate.

The desirable and hugely appropriate registration number - 140FLF - is also included in the sale price.

    Model XK140

One of only 842 Right Hand Drive examples produced, chassis 804183 was supplied in June 1955 by Litherland Motors of Liverpool to a Mr. Thomas Melling of Southport. Interestingly this example was originally painted in Mediterranean Blue with a matching dark blue leather interior, the first known XK140 to be painted in this shade.

In more recent times the Jaguar has benefited from attention to the engine and gearbox, and has been supplied with replacement wire wheels, a new bonnet strap and car cover. Invoices are on file for the work completed on the XK.

Supplied with the relevant Heritage Certificate, this is a wonderfully usable XK140 which can be enjoyed straight away.

    Engine Number: NE-1590-8
    Number of cylinders: 6
    CC: 3781
    Year of Manufacture: 1955
    RHD/LHD: Right Hand Drive
    Estimate (£): 52,000 - 60,000

Original, UK-supplied, right-hand drive 140, first registered in Liverpool
Superbly restored around 5 years ago. Further recommissioning recently including conversion to wire wheels
At some point, it has been fitted with a more powerful 3.8-litre engine from an XK150
Fresh MOT, V5c, lots of invoices, Jaguar Daimler Heritage Certificate
Sporting the appropriate registration number '140 FLF' this is a really lovely classic 140

    This particular XK140 is an original, right-hand drive, Fixed Head Coupé manufactured in 1955 and is one of only 842 right-hand drive, home market cars. It was first registered on June 11th, 1955 by Litherland Motors of Liverpool and sold to a Mr Thomas Melling of Southport finished in the classic combination of Old English White with contrasting red leather trim and red carpets. Around five years ago, prior to our vendor's purchase, the Jaguar was subject to an extensive overhaul and, body-off, respray by a leading marque specialist. According to the accompanying paperwork the work carried out included;

Bodywork; doors, bonnet and boot lid re-fitted to produce excellent shut lines. Entire body fully prepared, primed and painted, including door shuts, engine bay and wheels. Brightwork polished and replaced where necessary. Body cavities wax injected and new body sealing rubbers fitted all around. Mechanicals; brakes serviced, gearbox rebuilt, oil & filters changed. Engine bay wiring fully overhauled. Cylinder block, head and radiator cleaned and painted. Cam covers and carburettor dash pots polished. Interior; Seats 're-Connollised' and the carpets cleaned. The account for this apparently totalled some £12,000.

It should be noted that at some stage in the car's history a stronger, more powerful 3.8-litre engine from the later XK150 has been fitted.

The expenditure has continued during our vendor's ownership and the car has been fitted with new stub-axles enabling the fitting of a set of chrome wire wheels, an engine tune and carb set-up and has covered only 400 since competion of the work. The car remains in excellent condition and is sold with a fresh MOT Certificate, its Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate, and the desirable registration number - '140 FLF'.

This is a really lovely XK140, one of the nicest we have seen.

The fact that it appears to have been first registered TKB9 would suggest that, for a period, it was Gillie Tyrer's (Litherland Motors Ltd.) daily driver (probably replacing his XK120 fhc PLV9 669155) and living beside his D Type TKF9 - XKD 517. Any thoughts?
