Ebay item 6/23/08

cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll

Current bid $40,000, 1 bid, 3 days left in auction, Union City, Indiana

Sellers description:

I believe this Jag was restored mid 90's. At the time the odometer was reset and now shows 2,330 miles. The title states EXEMPT. I have owned the car 10 years. It is always stored over winter as we go to warmer climate. It is a real pleasure to drive.

It was sold to me as a body off restoration but underneath looks more amateur than professional. I don't believe it was body off? I had the brakes all rebuilt 3 or 4 years ago by Whitepost. They sleeved each cylinder etc. The tires were new in 1998 and have very few miles on them.

Some things you might not be able to see in pictures: A paint or top coat run near base of deck lid. A small crack in paint near deck lid handle. About 3" scratch that was touched up on driver spat. Not real good body alinement between passenger door and spat. Two winters ago I had an occasional ceiling drip. I placed a towel on r/r fender of car where it sometimes dripped. When I removed the towel it left an area about 8-10" diameter that looks like fine rain drops in the top coat. Not too noticeable but can be felt. See picture with marked off area. There may be other things but can't think of them now.

The paint is bright and shinny. The chrome looks like new except top latches should be replated. It has a very nice top, rear window, side curtains, and cockpit cover and car cover. The carpet is very nice and I cover it with clear plastic mats to protect it. The engine department is nice but not super show.

Opening bid $40,000 reserve pricenot met, no bids yet 6 days left in auction.

Sellers description:
I have owned this car for about 10 years. It shows 2,300 miles. The odometer was reset when the car was restored prior to my purchase. So true miles unknown. It has taken me 10 years to put on that many miles. It is seldom driven and it is time to sell. When it sits for some time it takes several cranks to get it started, but once started, no problem. It starts, runs, drives and stops good.

I had the brakes done by White Post about 4 or 5 years ago. They are still good. The tires only have about 1,500 miles on them. The paint is very glossy and show quality except for a space outlined by tape in one picture. I left a towel sitting on it and when it was removed it left a ruff surface. It is in the clear coat and should be able to be sanded and cleared without repaint.

The top and side curtains are in very good condition. The chrome is very nice. Top latches need rechromed.

This is not a number one as you can tell from the pictures but very nice.

VIN F13078

Exterior Color Red

Interior Color Red Leather

Mileage 2658 Miles (TMU)

Engine no.G9536-8

Transmission 4-Speed manual

This handsome left-hand-drive example was treated to a high-quality driver restoration when completed in the 1990s by a dedicated older enthusiast. Although not much is known about the early history of this example, the engine block and head match the chassis plate, and the former owner is known to have been a long-term custodian for the car. The current owner, himself an enthusiast, purchased the car eight years ago from the long-term owner some years after it had been placed in storage. Under current ownership, the car has been maintained and serviced regularly with recent work performed totaling over $6,000 including a complete brake job, replacement of the fuel tank with a new aluminum unit and rebuilding the carburetors.

Condition Overview

Today, this Jaguar XK140 makes a strong visual impression with very nice cosmetics and glossy paint suitable for local shows and ready for enjoyment. The paintwork displays a consistent finish with no major flaws but showing areas of age and gentle use. The red finish is matched on the solid wheels wearing hubcaps and wheel trim, shod with older whitewall tires. The body is straight and sound showing very good gaps and smooth panel operation. The exterior chrome is in nice condition and properly fit, with very good luster, reflective of quality work performed when the restoration was completed in the 1990s. The headlights and fog lamps nicely accent the beautiful front end, with all emblems, lettering, and trim in very good condition, and very good rubber gasketing. The windshield is very nice with no notable scratches or chips and the various chrome trim and rubber are consistently good.

The interior offers a satisfying and authentic finish to the red and tan leather surfaces delivering an inviting and comfortable impression in the gently settled seats and warmly settled materials. The carpet is in good condition, while the door trim and perimeter materials remain in very good condition. The dashboard is very nicely finished, featuring correctly restored original instruments and accessories. The canvas top is in excellent condition and fits properly to the chrome trimmed windscreen, featuring a clear plastic rear window and proper headliner.

The engine compartment is attractive, using generally correct fasteners, correct hoses, and fittings per factory specifications. The matching numbers engine block and head are properly finished though not overly polished or fussy to the point where one might refrain from using the car. The trunk is fully trimmed with consistent presentation with correct trunk liner, fender spat removal tool, and lug wrench stowed in the correct metal retainer clips. The undercarriage appears sound with no visual evidence of structural compromise though not detailed for show. A reprinted owner’s manual and wiring diagram are included with the sale.

This is a wonderful opportunity to acquire a handsome, genuine, matching numbers XK140 roadster with capable driving manners and attractive cosmetics. Lovingly enjoyed with recent mechanical freshening, and handsome cosmetics, this Jaguar XK140 roadster awaits a new owner, ready to drive and enjoy.
