Lot #168755

This 1957 Jaguar XK140 MC fixed-head coupe was purchased in 1977 by the seller’s father in Michigan, where it has remained since. Early along in their ownership, a refurbishment was completed which included an engine rebuild as well as a color change from red to gray. The car has been in storage since 2017, and the seller notes the 3.4-liter inline-six will run with the assistance of starting fluid. Equipment includes a four-speed manual transmission, dual SU carburetors, 16″ knock-off wire wheels, fog lights, red leather upholstery, wood interior trim, and adjustable seats. This XK140 project is now offered at no reserve by the seller on behalf of their mother with a spare set of wheels, manufacturer’s literature, records, service manuals, and a clean Michigan title in the owner’s name.

The car was previously finished in red and was resprayed in gray early along in the current ownership. Features include a split windshield, front vent windows, fog lights, dual side mirrors, dual exhaust outlets, and full-width chrome bumpers with overriders. Chipped and cracking paint, damaged and worn rubber, a cracked driver-side window, dents in the headlight trim, and missing trim pieces are visible.

The 16″ knock-off wire wheels are mounted with older mixed tires that are cracked. A full-size spare is stored under the trunk floor, and braking is handled by drums at each corner.

The adjustable seats are trimmed in worn, stained, and torn red leather, and interior appointments include wind-up side windows, door storage pockets, and a folding rear bulkhead. The headliner is torn and deteriorated, and the seller notes the presence of rust in the trunk.

The steering wheel features spokes that have been wrapped in adhesive tape. Smiths instrumentation consists of a reverse-sweep 6k-rpm tachometer, a 140-mph speedometer, and an ammeter alongside gauges for oil pressure, water temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 27k miles, approximately 1k of which were added under current ownership.

The 3.4-liter inline-six featured dual SU carburetors from the factory and was rebuilt in 1981. The seller notes that it has recently run on starting fluid, but the fuel system has not been tested in approximately seven years.

The car is equipped with a four-speed manual transmission. The seller notes rust in the battery boxes, and additional corrosion and fluid leaks is visible on the underside.

Historical photos of the car are provided in the sale.
