Ebay item 6/17

Auction was ended with no bids, seller cherywrobe_0.

For Sale is a 1957 XK140 FHC. Except for one excursion outside on the end of a tow truck, this car
is a real barn find. It has been covered, inside an enclosed garage, for over twenty years. The body is very nice condition and retains all the chrome except for the trim around the windscreen and rear window. There are no dents or scratches and from what the current owner knows, it has never been in an accident. The major alteration was the replacement of the original XK engine with a Chevy
V-8, compete with automatic transmission. Unfortunately, the original engine and gearbox are gone. In it's current condition, the engine does not run, however, short of a rebuild, it could possibly be brought back to running condition. The obvious plan would be to replace it with a G series, Jaguar XK engine and gearbox. Behind the front bumper there appears to be an oil cooler with the appropriate hoses to the engine. The original steering wheel has been replaced with something else. There are no radio or drawer in the dashboard space. All intrumentation is installed in the original walnut dash, and was "working when parked". The dash is still in very nice condition with no cracks or delamination issues. The headliner, interior panels, seats, and floor carpets are in need of cleaning, but still look to be in very serviceable condition. The upholstered seats do not match the original XK stitching pattern, but are comfortable and in good condition as well. Also, easily seen in the pictures, the shift lever area of the tunnel has been slightly altered to accept the non-original gearbox and shift lever. The car is fitted with period correct, wide white wall tires, and spoke rims. The tires hold air, and are acceptable for shipping, but they should be
replaced before operating at speed. The chrome spokes still have some chrome, but also show some evidence of pitting and some rust. Painting or a new set of stainless spokes would be a good move. Replacing the original drum brakes are disc brakes on all four wheels. Both front and rear bumpers are in very nice condition . A good washing and some chrome polish would bring them back to nearly new. The sunroof is a rare dealer option and remains in very good condition. The headliner and exterior fabric of the sunroof is clean, undamaged, and the slides operate smoothly. I have tried unsuccessfully to get the chassis number from both locations, but they are hidden by the V-8 installation. I'll try to add it later from the title. The trunk (boot) release button is stuck in the down position and will not open. A bias ply spare tire is shown through the inside access to the rear boot area. The fold down door is missing and has been replaced by a piece of carpet. The condition of the boot and spare tire compartment is unknown. It is also unknown whether the jack or tool kit is present. It is difficult to get more pictures because of where the car is stored. The driveway immediately outside the garage is very steep and prevents moving it outside at the present time.

Purchased in 2018 from second owner. Second owner purchased car in California then after several years relocated to Hawaii in the 1970s. Jag engine spares not available in Hawaii so engine was swapped for a Chevy V8 and auto box in 1980's. Original engine lost. Garage stored, non-runner since 1994..

Restoration underway to swap back to period xk engine and manual moss gearbox in 2018.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
