This 1955 Jaguar XK140 M is a drophead coupe that was reportedly placed in storage from the 1970s until being purchased by its current owner in February 2024. Finished in black, the car is powered by a 3.4-liter inline-six that is equipped with dual SU carburetors and linked to a four-speed manual transmission with a Laycock de Normanville overdrive unit. It rides on 16″ knock-off wire wheels and is further equipped with a black soft top, Lucas driving lights, burl wood interior trim, and Smiths instrumentation. Recommissioning work in preparation for the sale included replacing the fuel tank, tuning the carburetors, changing the coolant, and replacing the tires. This XK140 is now offered by the seller on behalf of the owner with a clean Pennsylvania title.
The drophead coupe is distinguished from the roadster by its integrated windshield frame, roll-up side windows, and exterior door handles. This example left the factory finished in Pacific Blue and was refinished in black under previous ownership. Exterior details include a black soft top, driving lights, dual exhaust outlets, and chrome bumpers with overriders. Various paint imperfections can be seen up close in the gallery below, along with photos of the car before the recommissioning work was performed under current ownership.
Knock-off 16″ wire wheels were mounted with Coker Classic tires in October 2024, and a full-size spare is stored below the trunk floor. Braking is handled by four-wheel drums. The master cylinder, brake shoes, and brake lines were replaced in March 2024. Corrosion is visible on the wheels.
The cabin was factory-trimmed in red leather, and it was reupholstered in black under previous ownership. Burl wood veneer trim adorns the dashboard, doors, and side window frames. Lap belts are provided for front occupants. Tears in the front seats and damage to the passenger floorboard can be seen.
The four-spoke steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, a reverse-sweep tachometer with an inset clock, and auxiliary gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and amperage. The five-digit odometer shows 14k miles, a handful of which were added under current ownership.
The 3.4-liter inline-six is equipped with dual SU carburetors and was factory rated at 190 horsepower. Recommissioning work in preparation for the sale included replacing the fuel tank, cleaning the fuel system, tuning the carburetors, replacing coolant hoses, and changing the coolant.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with an electronically actuated Laycock de Normanville overdrive unit. Corrosion is visible on the frame and underside components.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate lists factory colors and drivetrain numbers as well as initial delivery to Hornburg Jaguar in Los Angeles, California.
The Pennsylvania title lists the VIN as 55G26398, which corresponds to the model year and engine number.
