Sellers description:
Excellent original, low miles, all matching numbers thru-out #2 condition XK-140 Drophead Jaguar 4 seat convertible. If you are a serious collector of fine and rare automobiles then you already know of the fine racing lemans winning pedigree that is the lineage and integrity of these amazing, hand built extremely low production Jags(only 2,789 dropheads were made during the entire factory production run from 1954 to 1957 XK 140’s). These cats are considered by collectors of fine vintage classic automobiles to be one of the best looking, performance, handling, driving and braking machines of their day that were ever produced. Evidenced by a very high collector demand and very scarce supply, these cats are a superb investment that will only keep on appreciating in value in the coming years and will not disappoint the serious and novice collectors on any level. It’s the cat born out of Jaguar’s legendary Lemans racing history of 3 consecutive years of 51 thru 53 of Jaguar beating up/winning vs. all the competition including Ferrari and many other exotic marques. This is the updated Jaguar that has some of the benefits of the C and D-type proven race winning Lemans Jaguars, which had the rack and pinion upgraded steering, engine now came standard with 190hp and suspension upgrades. All this and more interior room by stretching the dropheads a full 3 inches in length and moving the engine 3 inches forward creating a much more spacious interior over the previous dated XK 120 model. If you have been searching for a top notch usable driver XK 140 in prime #2 condition then this is your cat. It is not concourse #1 but it is a very fine usable #2 Jaguar that is completely well sorted in all aspects.
Let’s talk about the details;
Starting with a gorgeous mid-west (the first original lady owner was from Nevada and it remained in the family long after she passed away and was a dry cat west coast cat all its life) thus the body and frame never had any rust issues to deal with. This Jaguar’s fit and finish is stunning. Body was stripped and re-painted in urethane single stage in the original Cotswald Blue (light blue) a few years ago and has been used sparingly on dry sunny days since completion. Its paintwork will dazzle you with its mirror like finish. The body fit is very good throughout and is as you would expect on a Jag of this quality. All chrome is very nice throughout. Gorgeous top quality upgrade full Chrome wire wheels/and new tires complement the lines of this Jaguar to the fullest. The new high quality Hartz stayfast cloth top (proper) has an excellent fit as well. The interior is beautifully appointed and restored nicely. New quality grey leather hides throughout are excellent with new expensive wool carpets, the wood is nicely restored condition (there is a small mahogany veneer chip on the drivers side door hardly noticeable). Also the steering wheel is not the original but a quality correct period racing design that is functional and fashionable. Overall the underside/undercarriage frame is solid/excellent as you would expect on a car of this high quality.
Let’s talk mechanicals;
The heart of this drophead is its numbers matching 6 cylinder 190HP at 5500 RPM comp. 8:1 with high-lift cams, dual SU’s. Also upgraded on the 140 model was the old two battery 6 volt system to an up dated 12 volt system, mated to an improved 4-speed close ratio gearbox as well. All systems have been carefully/expertly rebuilt or gone thru and are in great working/functional order with no major work needed at all. Services are totally up to date hence a totally turnkey XK-140 Drophead ready to drive, local shows, enjoy or just stare at for hours while it is parked in your garage.
Options Jaguar 1956 XK-140 Drophead (Only 2789 Drophead XK-140 produced from 1954-1957)

· Full chrome wire wheels

Overall;
Please consider this if you have been looking for a true collector’s quality XK-140 Drophead in absolute turn-key ready to use and enjoy condition that is realistically priced well under the cost it would take approx. 75k to restore an XK to this level and 35 to 40k for a good core #’s matching example to begin with plus factor the time and effort as well, then this is just simply put a no-brainer and its the Jaguar that you must own! This Jag is the ultimate sacrifice from a perfectionist elite Jaguar collector just to make some room in his somewhat over crowded stable at this moment.
Please understand what you are bidding on has been accurately described and is a very strong #2 condition Jag with no disappointments and is a superb investment quality Jaguar with a fine pedigree.
