This particular example is the Super Sports derivative with the "C" type cylinder head providing a quoted 190bhp. Built in December 1952 and shipped to Hornburg, the California Jaguar Dealer, in January 1953, it returned to the UK in 1986 and has had only two owners since then. Nick Peace bought the car in 1991, joined the Jaguar Driver's Club and from 1996 to 2012 served as its XK Register Correspondent. He organised the XK Register's Autumn Rallies in Europe, and the UK, for a number of years and his wife continues as the XK Register Treasurer! The following numbered components are reportedly original and match the Heritage Certificate: Cylinder Head W6896-8S (the S suffix denoting its "C" type specification), Cylinder Block W6896-8S, Chassis S673307, Body F5350 and Gearbox JL14081. Although not listed on the Certificate, the Back Axle is numbered as 252 2756X (ratio 3.77:1). The longer tonneau cover is fitted with the roof and side screens stowed behind the seats, all in good condition.

In November 1999 a body-on refurbishment was started, stripping back to bare metal, including reskinning the aluminium doors, the 2-pack paint system was used. The engine was disassembled and hardened valve seats incorporated, Poly bushes were fitted to the front suspension. The entire restoration is documented and all the bills are in a presentation folder together with numerous other papers dating back to the car's 1986 repatriation. In 2014 the engine was re-bored, Hepolite pistons fitted, the crankshaft reground, a new clutch assembly installed and the gearbox oil seals replaced. The only concessions to modernity are: a stainless steel exhaust (fitted by Bell Swindon in 2010), Japanese high-torque/ low-current starter motor, aluminium radiator with a Series 2 E Type expansion tank on the bulkhead, Kenlowe fan, 2x 12volt Varta batteries (housed in the original 6v battery boxes) and 15-inch radial tyres.

The car is regularly used averaging approximately 2000 miles per year, (1,258 miles since the rebore and 35,800 miles since 1991). Indeed, Mr Peace intends driving it the 164 miles to the Chateau!

    Model XK120 SE Roadster

Imported back into the UK in 1986 and while in the ownership of a prominent privateer in the JDC world, the car was meticulously restored to its current superb condition. Its extensive history file contains a two-inch thick folder of invoices containing details of all work carried out since the 1980s.

More recently, the car has had a vast amount of mechanical work undertaken that included a complete engine rebuild and its only non-original, yet necessary modifications of the fitment of a Kenlow fan and E-type expansion tank. Thanks to these upgrades, the car is said to even handle rush-hour London traffic with ease!

Fitted with full weather equipment, matching numbers engine (W68968S), bell stainless exhaust system and thanks to its C-type cylinder head, this desirable XK120 SE is said to still produce 180hp comfortably, assisted by its higher-lift cams, larger exhaust valves and 1.9 compression.

Also included in the cars history file is its Jaguar Certificate of Authenticity, original workshop manual and handbook as well as an original Jaguar sales brochure. The chrome is said to be like new and its bodywork in first class order. Having covered only 600 miles since its most recent full service in August 2017 costing £1,800 where a new top and lower ball joints were also fitted, the car comes with a current MOT and radial tires in good order. 'Simply stunning in all respects'

    2018-09-23 05:21:01 | John Hendrusson writes:

Present owner will return the car's interior to red and biscuit, and replace the chrome 15" wheels to body colour painted 16" wires.

    2018-10-16 13:09:00 | John Hendrusson writes:

I am at present repairing the boot area where water has corroded the spare wheel tray. The boot interior will be repainted and the correct Hardura mat fitted to the luggage area. After the boot has been returned to original spec, the non-original black interior will also be changed.
Updated pictures of the restoration will occasionally be uploaded. Watch this space!

    Well put together aluminium radiator

Includes high-torque starter motor and hidden led indicator lights

    Correctly numbered C-Type cylinder head

Exported from the Jaguar factory at Brown Lane in 1952 to the first Jaguar distributor in the USA, It was sold to the first, but unknown customer in Santa Monica, California before being registered by Charles Hornburg in 1953. It was then brought back to the UK in 1985 by a Lloyds Name who kept the car in central London before selling it on to a long-time member of the Jaguar Owners Club and used for club meetings and various European tours. After several years, it changed hands again, this time to an enthusiast and experienced restorer who bought the car in 2019, re-trimming the interior back from black to its factory-biscuit & red leather interior and has achieved a patina never before seen by this writer. This Jaguar has been a regular visitor to the Goodwood Revival and concours car shows (where it achieved best in class in Brighton & Hove Motor Club Concourse 2022).

It also underwent a bare-metal re-spray in the early 1980’s and has a correctly numbered C-Type head. Updates for use in modern traffic include a high-torque starter motor, a well put-together aluminium radiator and hidden LED indicators in the wing/side lights. This ‘matching numbers’ XK benefits from an extensive history file including older MoT test certificates, servicing work documentation and a JDHT Heritage Certificate as well as the original workshop manual, hand book and parts list. The boot even contains some tools and a rare & original tyre pump. Driving well and inspected at a recent car show, it appears straight and in original colour scheme, even driving on the correct Avon Turbospeed tyres. Consigned by Edward Bridger-Stille
