For sale is an unrestored 1953 Jaguar XK120SE Roadster with possible racing provenance. The car was purchased at Fergus Motors in New York City in 1953/54 and had 3 known owners - with the original owner(s) unknown. A close friend of mine who is an artist ended up with this car in a trade in the early 1970s for work he had done for an eccentric car collector in the NY metro area.
The XK sat from around 1973 in a plywood "car-cophogus" for over four decades in a weatherproof, heated garage. We uncovered it last summer to attemp some information gathering for a possible sale / restoration. There were many bids and my friend opted to hold onto the car. Now it's time to part with the car.
The car now has a clean NJ title and a Jaguar heritage certificate. Notables:
-At some point the factory hood had louvers put in - which suggests possible racing heritage
-We know this is not the original engine because two engines came with this car in the 70s and one was seized. This seized one was told to my friend to be the original and this other one was put in - not sure if also from XK120 or a XK150. The original was left with a mechanic to have repaired and the guy dissapeared 40+ years ago.
-Appears mostly complete with lots of trim and parts. Known missing components are radiator and bumpers. Other than that just small stuff. Many, many boxes of parts. Even have the spare wheel with old tire and I think the factory soft top. Original seats and everything still inside as you can see from photos.
-Car is very straight with no chassis or apparent body rust. I am not an expert nor car restoration expert but this seems like an unbelievable platform to work with. Only dent is one under the passenger headlight which happened when they were putting the car into the garage 45 years ago.
Price: $38,900 negotiable
