This 1954 Jaguar XK120 is a Special Equipment roadster that was purchased by its current owner on August 30, 1956 from Richter Motors in South Gate, California. The car spent the majority of the ensuing 64 years in the state and was repainted in its factory exterior color of Pastel Green in 2000. The numbers-matching 3.4-liter DOHC inline-six was rebuilt in the early 2000s and is paired with a four-speed manual gearbox. Additional equipment includes Suede Green leather upholstery, 16″ wire wheels, and Smiths instrumentation. Work performed within the last two years included refreshing the fuel system, adding electronic ignition, replacing the brake master cylinder, fitting new green carpeting, and installing a new Fawn soft top. This XK120 is now offered by the selling dealer on behalf of the longtime owner with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, owner’s manual, service manual, the bill of sale from the owner’s 1956 purchase, service records from the last 20 years, and a clean California title.

The body was repainted in 2000 in Pastel Green, the original color listed on the Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate. A new Fawn soft top was fitted by the selling dealer in late 2018 and features a zip-up rear window panel with a new chrome-trimmed window. The top frame was cleaned and repainted before installation, and new wing piping was installed around the rear license plate mount in 2020.

Silver-painted 16” wire wheels were factory equipment on SE models and are secured by two-eared knock-offs. Firestone Deluxe Champion tires are mounted all around. A dual exhaust system and firmer suspension setup were also SE features. Stopping is handled by four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes, and a new master cylinder was installed in October 2018 prior to a brake fluid flush.

The interior features Suede Green leather over the seats, doors, and cockpit perimeter. Black lap belts have been added for each occupant, and new wool carpeting and underfelt were installed in July 2020. The seller notes that the heater has been bypassed due to a leak in the heater core. The trunk compartment is lined in green Hardura and houses a spare wire wheel wearing an older tire.

The dash fascia is trimmed in green and features Smiths instrumentation, including a 140-mph speedometer and reverse-sweep 6k-rpm tachometer. The five-digit odometer shows 22k miles and has rolled over. The current owner drove the car about 75k miles during his ownership.

The 3.4-liter XK inline-six was rebuilt in the early 2000s, and the twin SU carburetors were rebuilt in 2007. The Lucas generator and starter were rebuilt during a mechanical freshening carried out in 2006. In 2018 the selling dealer installed Pertronix electronic ignition, cleaned the carburetors, drained the fuel tank, flushed the coolant, changed the oil and filter, and fixed electrical issues. The car has been driven an estimated 5k miles since the engine rebuild. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual gearbox, and the suspension was overhauled in 2006.

A 1956 invoice from Richter Motors documents the current owner’s purchase of this XK120 for a total of $1,127 after the trade-in of a 1953 MG. The engine number is also listed on the receipt. The Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate is shown in the gallery below and lists the original colors as well as a completion date of July 16, 1954. Invoices dating back to the early 2000s, includ those for recent work carried out by the selling dealer.
