A beautifully restored ‘54 Jaguar XK-120 Open Two Seater in the classic colors of British Racing Green exterior, Suede Green interior & tan soft top.

On a personal note: This beauty was lovingly and painstakingly restored by my own hands! I have restored about a dozen 50s 60s classic Jags over the years. I consider them unique in the auto spectrum and truly love them. I bought my first Jaguar new in 1969 and still own it!

My father, a Jaguar enthusiast since the new purchase of his first (E-type) in 1969, had a hobby of restoring Jaguars to their former glory. This one, completed just before his death, was his last project and is now up for sale. A majority of this text is his own writing.

Lot #92303

This 1954 Jaguar XK120 SE roadster was completed on July 23, 1954 and distributed in the US through Charles Hornburg Jaguar of Los Angeles, California. The car was acquired around a decade ago by the seller’s late father, who performed a body-off refurbishment that was completed in 2019 and included an overhaul of the suspension, a refresh of the engine, reupholstered interior, and a repaint in dark green, which has since been covered in a lighter green vinyl wrap. Power is from a 3.4-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission, and features include a gray soft top, green leather upholstery, dual SU carburetors, Lucas driving lamps, and chrome knock-off wire wheels. This XK120 is being offered by the seller on behalf of their father’s estate with a tool roll, removable side curtains, manufacturer’s literature, a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, photos and parts receipts from the refurbishment, and a clean Ohio title in the name of their father’s trust.

Finished from the factory in Pastel Green and previously painted red, the body was removed from the frame, repainted its current shade of green in the late 2010s, and covered with a green vinyl wrap. The car is fitted with Lucas headlights and front driving lamps that were installed during the refurbishment. Additional work is said to have included re-plating various trim pieces, installing a gray soft top, and replacing the taillights, bumpers, windshield washer, and weatherstripping. Various paint imperfections can be seen up close in the gallery below. A pair of removable side curtains is included in the sale.

Replacement painted 16” knock-off wire wheels are mounted with 225/70 Cooper CS4 Touring tires. A full-size spare is found in the rear storage area. Braking is through drums at all four corners, and the car rides on GAZ front shocks. Work during the refurbishment included installation of a dual master cylinder, along with replacement of the wheel cylinders, front suspension bushings, upper and lower ball joints, wheel bearings and seals, and rear shock link arms.

The cabin was fitted with an OSJI interior kit and houses seats trimmed in green leather with a color-coordinated dashboard pad and door panels. Lighter green carpets line the floors, and the car features a passenger-side grab handle, a dash-mounted rear-view mirror, and map pockets in both doors. The seller notes that replacement birch floorboards have been installed.

A wood-rimmed Nardi steering wheel sits ahead of a central instrument panel housing a reverse-sweep 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset analog clock, a 140-mph speedometer, and auxiliary displays. The five-digit odometer has been reset and currently shows zero miles, and total mileage is unknown. The clock has reportedly been rebuilt and the speedometer and tachometer cables replaced.

The 3.4-liter inline-six was overhauled and bored .010″ over during prior ownership and was disassembled and refreshed by the seller’s father with a replacement timing chain, guide, and tensioner. The cylinder head was machined and the plug holes de-burred in 2015, and the wiring harness, fuel tank, and fuel pump are said to have been replaced. Additional work reportedly included rebuilding the water pump and both SU carburetors, re-coating the exhaust manifolds in porcelain, and re-coring the radiator.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission that was fitted with a replacement clutch and re-surfaced flywheel by the seller’s father. A Bell stainless-steel exhaust system was also installed, and the frame was stripped and refinished in black. Areas of corrosion are present on the underside.

The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate shows the factory colors and identification numbers.
