ENGINE NO. F3963-8

$140,000 - $180,000

Without Reserve

Beautifully Preserved, Highly Original XK

Matching-Numbers Example

Elegant Color Combination

Prime Candidate for Preservation Display

Offered with Heritage Trust Certificate and Tools

Finished at the Coventry Jaguar factory as a left-hand-drive XK120 Roadster in the classic color combination of Birch Grey over a red Connolly leather interior, the new Jaguar made its way across the Atlantic to the Chicago, Illinois, branch of European car dealer and importer Hoffman Motor Car Co., Inc. In September 1954, Robert A. Koschnick purchased the elegant Roadster off the showroom floor, and brought it down to his hometown of Indianapolis, Indiana.

Mr. Koschnick, a traveling salesman for the family lumber business, used this XK120 for sales trips throughout the 1950s until he purchased a new Oldsmobile in 1959. From then on, the Jaguar was seldom used until his passing in 1995, at which time it is believed to have covered only 20,000 miles.

The original purchase contract and invoice from Hoffman Motor Car Co., original title and a number of charming black-and-white photographs accompany the sale of this car.

After Mr. Koschnick's death, the XK120 was passed on to his adopted son David Markland. Mr. Markland continued his father's exceptional stewardship and preserved the original XK120 for the next decade, showing the car at local events in the Indianapolis area. In 2007, the XK120 was used as the poster car for the Vintage Thunder event at the Indianapolis Speedway.

Today the XK120 remains in largely original and unrestored condition. The red interior displays a charming patina. The exterior reflects a similar age that is only seen on well-kept, unrestored cars. Most recently, the car received an engine-out service, where various mechanical aspects were attended to.

Lot 2, sold for $101,750.

I recently purchased at the above auction and am delighted to own such an original example. The auction company did not do a justice to all of its originality and was shocked to see the pounds of documents including the orignal bill of sale, cancelled check, 1954 dated envelopes from Hoffman and Coventry, shipping tags, every registration from 1954. I spent about an hour driving thru Scottsdale in 105 degree heat. The XK didn't miss a beat and ran cool. Just amazing.

It is very disappointing when people don't bother to put captions on 'period' photos.

"Preservation Class" Original & Unrestored. This 1954 JAGUAR XK-120 SEROADSTER Was owned, loved and cherished by the original family from 1954 - 2012 when I purchased it. It retains it's 1st original paint, interior, carpets, trunk accessories, tools and of course all matching numbers. The most important feature of this car is that it comes with an album of documents virtually never seen including it's Original Bill of Sale, Cancelled Check, Dealer Purchase Order from the famous Max Hoffman, shipping tags from England, Factory Warrantee, Service Manual, Shop Manual, Parts Manual, Period Photo's, Original Title in 1954 Dated Envelope and Registration, Letters in Envelopes from Jaguar, Actual Mileage Title, Enough to turn your world into a Black & White 72 year old movie. All this in a car that runs and drives as it should with 50lbs of oil pressure in the Arizona heat with no overheating ever. Also included is the Famous Jaguar Showroom Dealer Display Plate. This Fine Automobile defies time and a "Well Preserved Original" as opposed to a "Barn Find" Also along with its Heritage Certificate, It comes with a Preservation Class Award from the Inaugural 2014 Arizona Concours D'Elegance. As they say, "find another like it". That won't happen any time soon. This is really the one you want to come see in person. This is a Late 1954. Of the 1847 Roadsters built, a small percentage were SE/M Models. This one was built August 13, 1954. It's the 195th car built before the XK-140's were built and was delivered with the Flat horn push as opposed to the earler Dome.
