1953 Jaguar XK 120 Drop Head Coupe - located in the USA...East Coast.

Chassis number S677755, Engine number W9317-85 Trans number UL17839, and Body P1759.

This is a numbers matching SE optioned car, which is left hand drive. The original exterior color was Old English White with a red leather interior.

- I acquired the car from an individual who was not able to continue with the restoration, which was well under way.
The frame was sandblasted, typical rust repair completed, primed with a primer/catalyst and gloss black/catalyst.

- All parts necessary to complete the frame as a rolling chassis were sandblasted, primed, and painted gloss black.

-The front suspension was restored with XK's Unlimited front suspension kit which included front shocks, all bushings, shims, inner and outer bearings and hardware.

The rear suspension has new rear leaf springs with rear axle assembly cleaned and painted.

All new brake lines were installed with new proper clips. The brake master cylinder was cleaned, brake cylinders on each wheel cleaned and new rubber installed.

The engine has the appearance of having been rebuilt before the car was disassembled. Removing the cam covers shows the cam lobes with virtually no burnishing marks. The chain guides show slight marking. The oil pan was removed and steam cleaned. The lower portion of the motor did not have any sludge or signs of excessive wear.

- The exterior of the engine was cleaned, and the block painted black. The trans was cleaned and correctly painted in black.
Clutch package appeared to have little wear.

The engine, clutch package, trans, driveshaft, and rear axle assembly installed. New fuel tank installed. Fuel lines, pump, and sending unit not installed. Wheels and tires installed to create a rolling chassis.

New floors, side sills and entire new rear body section including new fenders mounted on frame. Cowl section needs the metal work completed.
All necessary pieces ordered and are being fabricated in England.

The parts are left and right dash strengthener; left hinge panel and drive axle tunnel. Cowl section installed being bolted to floor and tunnel. Original doors are complete with internals and glass.

Doors placed on car. New door hinges not installed. New right and left fenders plus inner wheel wells installed. Original hood and grille placed on car. Hood hinges not installed.

All bumper brackets sandblasted and painted. Rear bumpers partially installed. Front bumpers not installed. Front headlight bezels and signal lights place on car. Rear taillights installed. Original radiator, heater box, wiper motor plus assembly, front fender support rods and brackets, and rear trunk lock mechanism included.

Soft top frame appears complete with appropriate hardware included. Front windshield molding included.

Presumably the engine listed in the new entry is a replacementin as it is from a Nov/Dec 1953 production

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
