Additional info from '04 H&H auction:
We understand from the vendor that, following acquisition of this 1953 Coventry-built classic, the XK120 SE was treated to a full rebuild from the ground up to a very high standard. We hear that the underside of the drophead coupe still looks superb, and the maroon paintwork and interior in biscuit tan hide are also impressive. The dashboard woodwork has been repolished and the instrumentation period correct for the model. The car has been rewired with a new loom installed, while a stainless steel exhaust has been fitted and the wheels renewed and shod with model correct Avon Turbo Speeds. We understand that loads of history and a Jaguar Heritage Certificate confirming manufacturing details are on file, whilst the current MOT will not need renewing until next February.

Additional information from '01 auction:

Colour GREY
Trim Colour RED
Chassis No S677874
Engine No A1563-7
Registration UN-REG
CC 3400
M.O.T NONE
This particular example of this highly desirable special equipment model has been with the present owner since 1979 and during that time it has been completely stripped down. The shell was sandblasted and the body rebuilt by Merlin Restorations in Disley who also repainted the car but this was completed some years ago and unfortunately in that time the paint has reacted slightly and there is some microblistering in evidence.
The engine in the car, which is to the correct specification although not the original, has had the cylinder head rebuilt by specialist Rob Beere and converted to run on unleaded fuel and a tremendous amount of other work has been done but it does need finishing. The parts used, which total approximately ú28,000, are listed in the history file and the wheels are the rarer 54 spoke ones and there is a steering rack if anyone should wish to convert it back to its original left hand drive format.
This is a rare opportunity for someone to acquire a very desirable XK120 SE drophead coupe which has the C&E386 to enable easy registering when completed and really as ninety percent of the parts have been restored or refurbished it simply requires someone with some free time to put everything back together, have the seats re-trimmed and the hood recovered. It should be finished by Friday week!

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
