Dore & Rees - Collector's Cars, Bradford-on-Avon, UK 14 March, 2026
1954 Jaguar XK120 SE Drophead Coupe
Estimate £50,000 - £60,000
Registration Number: 866 UYN
Chassis Number: S678034
Recorded Mileage: c.81,600 miles
- Extensively restored by marque specialists
- Uprated balanced engine with big-valve head
- 2018 entrant to the Gran Premio Nuvolari
Our vendor, a true 1950s sportscar enthusiast, acquired this beautiful XK120 DHC as a US/dry state car to form the sound basis for a ground up restoration. The work was entrusted to local Jaguar specialists Bristol Classic & Sportscars, who completed a “nut and bolt” rebuild of the XK to a high standard.
The car was stripped, the chassis and suspension powder-coated and then built back up with polyurethane bushes. The engine was dismantled, balanced and rebuilt, then fitted with large valves to the cylinder head, and a high torque starter motor. The motor now breathes through a stainless steel exhaust system via twin 2” SU carburettors (as per period C-Type specification) with an electronic fuel pump. To aid cooling an electric cooling fan and high flow radiator core were also added. The steering box and gearbox were expertly rebuilt, as was the rear axle. An alloy fuel tank was installed, as was a lockable Aston-Martin filler cap.
The electrical system was renewed, with a new wiring loom and Halogen headlights. The braking is now servo-assisted, and full stainless steel wire wheels sit on each corner. The beautiful interior features period-correct C-Type bucket seats, now very nicely trimmed in red leather with 80% wool carpets and matching over mats, complemented by a wood-rimmed steering wheel, light burr walnut veneer, and matched to a new mohair convertible roof.
Completed in 2018, this wonderful restored machine has been enjoyed on British and continental trips and events in recent years. The Jaguar is on the button and ready for new adventures with its next owner.
