Two questions. The 1998 JDC Register says engine no G 8600-8S (which does not match) It also says original registration no JXK 1135 which the book has as PRW 476 Can anyone confirm the correct facts?

Harrumpff. I waited so long for the photos to appear, I resent them.

No offence.

Original info: Chassis S807357DN. Eng. G6800-8S. Colour scheme: Suede Green with Suede Green trim and French Grey hood.
I feel sure that JXK 1135 is a Henlys, London, serial number. It is not a GB reg.

The car was delivered to Mike Hawthorn when it was nine months old. Not new, unless it sat in the Henlys showroom for that time - highly unlikely.

Was Hawthorn the first owner?

My notes tell me that S807357DN was sold new via TT Garages to Charles Brackenbury. It was registered FU 4. Reg. MPL 44 is a 1949 reg., which must have been allocated to another vehicle originally.

The plot thickens, perhaps.

My pal was rather proud of the fact that his 'new' £90 XK was owned by Charles Brackenbury (who scored several good finishes at Le Mans), but he did not know that Mike Hawthorn had owned it, which is odd if Hawthorn's name had been in the log book.
It is stated that the car was manufactured on Jan 25, 1956, but was not delivered to the Tourist Trophy garage (owned by Hawthorn) until September 19th of that year, perhaps to go straight to Brackenbury?

I don't think Hawthorn ever owned it. Just because it was delivered to his garage doesn't mean he ordered it for himself.

Perhaps.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
