This 1955 Jaguar XK140 MC roadster was manufactured on June 13, 1955, and initially distributed via Hornburg in Los Angeles. It was acquired by the current owner in 1967, and a ten-year refurbishment concluded in 1982. The car is finished in Pearl Gray over red upholstery and is powered by a 3.4-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. The car is fitted with a removable black soft top, 16″ wire wheels, Lucas auxiliary lights, and adjustable seats. This XK140 is now offered with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, a tonneau cover, side curtains, and a Washington title in the name of the owner’s family trust.

The car left the factory finished in Pastel Green, and the seller notes that the 1955 Jaguar shade of Pearl Gray was used by Custom Body Shop in Spokane, Washington, to refinish the car in 1980. Equipment includes a replacement black soft top, a split windshield, front vent windows, Lucas auxiliary lights, bright trim, dual exhaust outlets, and full-width chrome bumpers with overriders.

Wire-spoke 16″ wheels are mounted with Allstate tires, and a full-size painted wire-spoke spare with a non-matching tire is stored under the trunk floor. Braking is handled by drums at each corner.

The adjustable seats and interior were re-trimmed in red during the refurbishment. Appointments include a cabin heater, a defroster, door storage pockets, and a folding rear bulkhead.

The four-spoke retractable steering wheel sits to the left of centrally mounted Smiths instrumentation consisting of a reverse-sweep 6k-rpm tachometer, a 140-mph speedometer, and an ammeter alongside gauges for oil pressure, water temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 57k miles, approximately 10k of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The 3.4-liter inline-six features dual SU carburetors and was overhauled during the aforementioned refurbishment. US-specification MC models were factory rated at 220 horsepower.

Stamping on the cylinder head is shown above and matches information provided in the Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The overdrive function does not work.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace Certificate lists identification numbers and shows that the car was dispatched on June 20, 1955, via Hornburg in Los Angeles.

The chassis number S811478DN is shown on the plate above, while the sequence S8114780 is listed as the VIN on the current Washington title, which carries a “Classic” notation.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
