Car to be at Bonhams auction 8/08
    www.bonhams.com/cgi-bin/public.sh/pubweb/publicSite.r

    Auction description:
Sale 16250 - A Sale of Jaguar Motor Cars and Related Automobilia, 9 Aug 2008
    XK60, Goodwood, Chichester, Sussex

    Lot No: 230A
    1956 Jaguar XK140 3.8-Litre Competition Roadster
    Registration no. XKO 770
    Chassis no. S812805
    Engine no. G8935-8S
    Estimate: £75,000 - 85,000

    Footnote:
This superb, competition-modified XK140 has been the subject of a total refurbishment carried out by respected marque specialist Nigel Dawes at a cost in excess of £100,000, the work being photographically documented in an accompanying leather-bound folder. Restored in 2000, the car remained unused until it was acquired by the current owner in 2004. Upgraded for competition purposes in 2006, it has been fitted with a 3.8-litre XK ‘Super Sport’ power unit built by Jaguar specialists Vintage Sports Engines (VSE), of Llandrindod Wells, which is reported as just run in. This unit produces 308bhp (dynamometer printout available) and transmits its power via a Borg Warner T5 close-ratio five-speed gearbox (as fitted to the Ford Sierra Cosworth), while other competition-orientated enhancements include a racing pedal box, roll-over bar, metal tonneau cover and Borrani wire wheels. Weather gear consisting of a fabric tonneau and full-width windscreen c/w wipers is included in the sale together with a tool kit. ‘XKO 770’ has raced at Silverstone and Brands Hatch as well as finishing 1st in its class at the Three Castles Welsh Classic Trial, and thus represents a potentially most competitive drive in public road tour-type events and/or the less demanding of circuit racing series. Presented in excellent condition throughout, the car is offered with sundry restoration invoices, current MoT/road fund licence and Swansea V5 registration document. (It should be noted that the chassis number’s ‘81’ prefix indicates that this XK140, although currently right-hand drive, was manufactured in left-hand drive configuration).

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
