Chassis No. S 812947

High-quality older restoration

Currently fitted with a replacement engine for touring

Very attractive color combination

Offered with a collection of original literature, side curtains, and curtain bag

Accompanied by Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate

The roadster, or open two-seater (OTS), offered here was originally delivered by Jaguar Cars of New York, with the date of dispatch 8 November 1956. The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate further notes the original color scheme as being Pacific Blue over Red with a Sand top, a livery which must have been quite striking and may be worth consideration for a new owner. A later owner oversaw a restoration in the present dark-blue-over-dark-blue color scheme, and since that time the car has been sparingly used and enjoyed. In fact, for some time it ran an engine specially built for the road, with the original completely restored on a nearby stand in the current collection.

In preparation for the sale, the original engine is being included with the car and thus it retains its original, “matching” powerplant, which the new owner can opt to reinstall. The car is accompanied by a selection of brochures and memorabilia, spares including a high-performance fan, and the side curtains in their bag. At cataloguing the car had recorded 20,510 miles, and its condition is commiserate with that use since restoration.

This would be a delightful XK 140 for a new owner to drive and enthusiastically enjoy on the open road, in any number of tours and rallies for which these Jaguars are so ideal.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
