This 1957 Jaguar XK140 is a “Special Equipment” roadster that was manufactured in January 1957 and distributed in the US through Jaguar Cars New York. It was refurbished and modified under previous long-term ownership and recently acquired by the selling dealer. Work consisted of a color change to Orient Red, reupholstering the cabin in black leather, and installing a five-speed manual transmission. Power is provided by a 3.4-liter inline-six, and equipment includes a black soft top, side windows, a tonneau cover, knock-off 16” wire wheels, chrome bumpers with overriders, twin SU carburetors, and Lucas driving lights. This XK140 SE roadster is now offered with partial service records, a tool kit, owner’s manuals, literature, a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, and a clean Pennsylvania title.
Originally finished in Cream, the car underwent a color change to Mercedes-Benz Orient Red in 2005. Equipment includes a replacement black soft top, side windows, Lucas driving lights, fender-mounted side view mirrors, and dual exhaust outlets. A black tonneau cover is included in the sale.
Chrome 16” wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs and were a standard feature of Special Equipment cars. Period-style Pirelli tires are sized 185 VR, and a matching spare is mounted in the trunk. Braking is handled by four-wheel drums.
The cabin has been reupholstered in black leather with a matching dash, door panels, and carpets. Equipment includes a dash-mounted rear view mirror, chrome passenger grab handle, fresh air vents in the footwells, and storage behind the folding seat back and in compartments in the door panels.
A four-spoke steering wheel fronts a central instrument housing a 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset clock, a 140-mph speedometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 47k miles, and the total mileage is unknown.
The 3.4-liter inline-six features dual overhead camshafts and twin SU carburetors. Additional equipment includes an aftermarket radiator, an electric fan, and a high-torque starter.
A five-speed manual transmission was fitted by Catz Automotive Specialty of Poland, Ohio in 2008. The clutch, pressure plate, flywheel, and throw-out bearing were also replaced.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists the original colors, powertrain numbers, and production date, as well as distribution through Jaguar Cars New York.
Service and refurbishment records are also included in the sale, along with a tool kit and owner’s manual.
