Car to be at auction 7/13

    Auction description:
    Lot 41
    1957 JAGUAR XK 140 COUPE
    French title
    Chassis n° S815540

    - No reserve
    - High quality restoration
    - Rare coupé version, higher level of finishing
    - Wonderful styling, legendary engine

The car in the collection has been restored and is presented in very good condition. As the 'S' suffix indicates, this is a version with the C-type heads. The car was completely restored in Sweden at the start of the 2000s by the previous owner who then brought the car with him to France. Our collector fell in love with the car when he came across it at a rally, bowled over by its condition.
The coupé interior had a more luxurious level of finishing than the cabriolet and this example is no exception, with superb biscuit-coloured leather upholstery, new carpets, refurbished door-linings and a full-width varnished wooden dashboard not available on the convertible versions. Another feature rare on this model is the automatic Borg-Warner gearbox. The car is also fitted with a Jaguar radio and has two ashtrays. Serviced recently by the collector's mechanic, the muffled roar of the six-cylinder engine has a special resonance in the closed cockpit, enticing the driver to take to the road.

    Estimation 70 000 - 90 000 €

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
