This 1956 Jaguar XK140 MC drophead coupĂ© is a non-running project that is said to have remained with a single owner in California from 1965 until 2022, when it was acquired by the current owner. The car is finished in dark green over green upholstery and is equipped with a 3.4-liter twin-cam inline-six mated to a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Equipment consists of a tan soft top, twin SU carburetors, fender-mounted mirrors, and 16” knock-off wire wheels. The car will require a mechanical inspection and overhaul before it can be started and driven. This XK140 project is now offered by the seller on behalf of its current owner with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, spare parts, and a clean California title.
The car wears dark green paintwork and features a tan soft top, fender-mounted mirrors, and chrome bumpers with overriders. The paintwork is dirty and various scratches can be seen up close in the gallery below, along with pitted brightwork. A black-over-yellow California plate is included in the sale.
The 16” wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-off spinners and mounted with older Dunlop tires that have cracked sidewalls. MC-specification cars were equipped from the factory with heavier torsion bars than the standard 140, and the car is equipped with drum brakes at all four corners.
The cabin houses seats trimmed in green upholstery that has cracked and deteriorated, and color-coordinated upholstery covers the door panels. The carpets have been removed, and the car is equipped with a dashboard-mounted rear-view mirror and a Motorola push-button AM radio.
The four-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of a wood-trimmed dashboard housing centrally mounted Smiths instrumentation that includes a reverse-sweep 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset analog clock, a 140-mph speedometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows under 50k miles.
The non-running 3.4-liter twin-cam inline-six is equipped with dual SU carburetors and mated to a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive.
Areas of corrosion are visible on the underside.
The data plate lists chassis number S817633LN, which matches the number shown on the Heritage Trust certificate. The car is titled by engine number G4353-8S, which also matches the certificate and is listed as the VIN on the current California title.
The Production Record Trace certificate lists the factory colors, production information, and identification numbers.
