Ebay item 5/25/06
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jaguar-Drophead-2-Door-Coupe-1956-Jaguar-XK-140-MC-DHC_W ...
Current bid $15,100 reserve not met, 6 bids, 6 days left in auction. Buy it now price $72.5k.
Sellers description:
This matching numbers XK 140 MC has been with the same California owner for the last 30 years. While it has never been fully restored, it is best described as a well kept car with moderate cosmetic and significant mechanical attention paid to it over the last 30 years. The current owner has kept very careful records of all work completed.
The previous owner rebuilt the bottom end of the engine, and the car has traveled approximately 10,000 since. Following is a list of work completed in chronological order, beginning in the late 1970s:
* Rebuilt radiator
* Rebuilt gas tank
* Refinish wood dash
* Refinish dash instruments
* Rebuilt door hinges
* New Dayton 60 spoke wire wheels
* New Steering wheel
* New wiring harness
* New carpet
* New leather interior and trunk
* New German Hartz cloth soft top
* New radio and speaker system
* New blinker indicator
* New Battery
* Rebuilt carburetor
* Rebuilt heater and fan
* Front brake rebuilt
* New brake master cylinder
* Front suspension rebuild with poly bushings
* New Water pump, fan, thermostat, fan belt
* New whitewall radial tires
Currently the car is in running and driving condition. At times it is difficult to properly select second gear. The fuel gauge, clock, trunk light, and wipers are not operating, but the headlights, indicators, tail and brake lights are all operational.
The entire car has been repainted in what appears to be its original color. Some touch up and blend marks are visible, specifically in the door jams. There is evidence of some damage to the frontal area at one time, prior to the current paintjob, behind the bumper and at the leading edge of the bonnet. One small ding is visible in the driver’s door which has been brush touched. From several feel away, the ivory color masks all flaws and the car looks stunning. The car sits on very nice chrome and stainless wires with new Coker whitewall tires.
The interior is the definite highlight, with excellent dash and door wood, excellent seat and door leather, and very good carpets. The Hartz cloth soft top is new with perfect headliner. All the stock gauges, switches, and knobs remain in place.
With the car come the top boot, spare wheel and tire, records back to 1977, and a large box of extra parts including the original radio.

Lot 293
1956 Jaguar XK 140MC Drophead Coupe
Sold for $99,000
Chassis no. G43728S
The 1956 Jaguar XK 140MC Drophead Coupe presented here is a very collectable model, being a factory built MC with matching numbers.
The Jaguar has had a Northern California owner for the past 30 years. Althought it has spent most of this time properly stored indoors under a cover, when it was in use it was properly maintained and serviced by Jaguar specialists.
Less than 1,000 miles ago, the Drophead Coupe was treated to some professionally executed restoration work. Mechanically, in addition to an engine rebuild, various ancillary systems were rebuilt or replaced as needed to make sure the car was an exhilarating yet reliable driver. Cosmetically, the car was professionally repainted in white, and a brand new blue interior and top were fitted. Included in the sale of the Jaguar is a folio of receipts documenting the service and restoration work that has been performed on the car.
The highly desirable XK 140MC drophead coupe is a truly spirited and fun two-seat sports car that, in this configuration, is a desirable purchase that should always retain its value, both historically and in the market. This absolutely stunning example is one of the finest we have had the pleasure of offering in some time and we encourage close examination.
Addendum
Please note that this vehicle is titled by the engine number.

Rare and highly developed XK 140 MC chassis with C-Type cylinder head
A high-quality older restoration in attractive overall condition
Inviting as presented to drive and enjoy
This particular Old English White car, one of Stephanie Smith's prized possessions, carries the highly desirable MC designation (known as SE elsewhere) used only in North America; "M" denotes modified and "C" refers to the C-type cylinder head as used on the racing C-type. Horsepower is further increased to 210 in the MC version thanks to the performance head option with its bigger valves and improved porting. Only the twin exhaust gives it away from the exterior. On this particular car, both the engine block and head stampings match, and are believed to be original; they also match the numbers on the original serial number plate under the hood.
Reportedly previously with the same Northern California owner over for 30 years, the car was professionally repainted and fitted with a new blue interior and top in 2006, and it is believed to have undergone a full engine rebuild at the same time. The brakes have been upgraded to four-wheel discs, behind 16-inch chrome wire "knock-off" wheels shod in Coker Classic whitewall radial tires. Other desirable features include front and rear bumper overriders, dual fender-mounted wing mirrors, a telescopic steering wheel, and driving lights. The interior shows light wear from driving enjoyment, while the bodywork and finish remain in fine condition, aside from evidence of minor bumps to the nose at an earlier date. The burled walnut dashboard is in lovely condition and holds clear, attractive gauges, with the odometer noting 924 miles, presumably since completion of the restoration. Accompanying the car is a reproduction owner's handbook, a car cover, and a top boot.
An excellent XK 140, to the highest specification and thrilling to drive, this car would be a joy for a new owner - particularly on winding seaside roads, with a dash of extra comfort for long-distance touring.
Addendum Please note that contrary to the catalogue description, this car is equipped with stock four-wheel drum brakes.
