The car we offer is one of only 95 right-hand drive roadsters made between May 1957 and October 1960, and thus is an example of the rarest of all XK150 variants. Chassis number 'S820065DN' left the factory on 30th December 1959 and was delivered to Henlys, London for Chelsea resident, the Marchioness of Bute whose son, Johnny Dumfries, formed part of Jaguar's Le Mans-winning team of 1988. Originally a 3.4-litre overdrive-equipped model, the car had already been fitted with a 3.8-litre engine when the late owner bought it in August 1972 from Bucklands Garage, London Road, Chippenham (purchase receipt on file). The accompanying summary of its history records that the Jaguar had been partially restored and fitted with new rear wings, and that the refurbishment was completed by rebuilding the engine, re-installing the seats and trim, and overhauling the braking system with new discs, calipers and servo. In 1983 Cirencester Garage re-sprayed the car and in 1992 the seats were partially re-upholstered. Otherwise the XK reportedly only needed routine servicing and a new exhaust system and rear manifold, while circa 1990 the owner treated himself to a set of new chromium-plated wheel rims (replacing the original painted items). This obviously much loved Jaguar has been entered in the RAC Classic Car Rally on ten occasions, its owner recording that 'every mile is indeed a pleasure'.
Finished in its original livery of cream with red interior, 'YYF 168' is described as in generally good condition and offered with sundry restoration invoices, owner's handbook, workshop manual, MoT/tax to February 2012, Swansea V5 registration document and Jaguar/Daimler Vehicle Information Sheet confirming matching registration/chassis numbers.
