An original UK RHD car recently restored and fitted with an S spec triple carb engine and manual + overdrive gearbox. This car is in excellent condition and very attractive in Cotswold Blue with biscuit interior and veneer dash. It drives very well indeed. Excellent value.

I am the person who rescued (but did not restore) this car. I swapped a VW Passat for it in the early 1990's. The XK had become part of a hedge with a tree and brambles growing through it on the Devon/Somerset border. My cousin and myself spent a weekend clearing the area then lifted it out with a digger. It was sold to a gentleman who did restore it to a high standard near Stansted Airport. I did subsequently see the car again when restored and sat in it - brilliant. I still own the 1960 Mark 2 (KGL 976) I bought aged 19 in 1980.

Any photos of the rescue? Or immediately after?

Restored car photos are great, but the ones of wrecks can be more interesting!

    1958 Jaguar XK150S DHC
    Registration number: PRX555
    Chassis number: S824523DN

Delivered new via Henleys London on the 8th June 1958 as a Cotswold Blue with grey hide Right Hand Drive FHC with overdrive. This car has had a massive restoration & rebuild to full S spec with triple carbs & all the S bits added to put it in the triple carb "S" DHC form we find it in today.

The car has been under fastidious ownership where no expense has been spared as witnessed by the massive file of bills including a very recent full engine rebuild. The car has formed part of a small collection & is now being moved on to make room for other grander aquisitions. During the last tenure the car has been regularly driven on an assortment of Jaunts & short trips.

The car is finished in its original colour of Cotswold Blue with the paint being in utterly superb order. To the interior is lovely tan leather to the bucket stye seats with matching tan carpets. The dash board is of burr walnut. The list of works completed to the car is extensive, as follows:

    ORIGINAL ENGINE AND GEAR-BOX [MOSS + O/D]
    ORIGINAL COLOUR, COTSWOLD BLUE
    MODIFICATIONS:
Interior trim changed from grey to biscuit
Bench seat replaced with bucket seats
    Wood- veneered dashboard fitted
    Rear seats replaced with locker
    Under-dash millboard replaced in aluminium
    ENGINE, uprated to 'S' spec:
    Triple 2" carbs
    Twin exhausts
    Lightened flywheel
    Quick change brake pads
    Fog lamps
    Windscreen washers
Mechanical fan replaced with temp. controlled electric fan
    Radiator expansion tank fitted
    TRANSMISSION:
    Diaphragm clutch fitted
Trailing arms, chassis to rear axle, fitted
    ELECTRICS: changed to negative earth
    Dynamo replaced with alternator
    Clock rebuilt for -ve earth
Battery isolator switch fitted under dash
Electric choke fitted with on/off switch
    Jack-point fitted for battery charger
Interior light switch changed to toggle switch
Panel light switch replaced with [fog light] flasher
    Secret ignition immobilisation switch fitted
    FUEL TANK
    New aluminium tank fitted

Whilst clearly not one for the purists, this is definietly one for those who are drives who use their cars extensively. Snesible upgrades have been incorporated to make this an excellent driveing car. It is on the button in fine order & ready for extended motoring.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
