Car to be at auction in London 10/09
www.rmauctions.com/CarDetails.cfm

Auction info:
Automobiles of London
Wednesday, October 28, 2009
1959 Jaguar XK 150S Roadster

LOT: 252
Estimate:£70,000-£85,000
Chassis No. S831181DN

Before acquisition by the current owner in 1995, the example offered here was owned by a well-known collector from Illinois. During the early 1990s, it was lavished with a concours-quality restoration, with no expense spared. Despite the thoroughness of the restoration, the car was never shown in competitive events, as it was but one of a very large number of classic automobiles within the owner’s collection. Nonetheless, the Jaguar led a pampered existence within the climate-controlled museum facility on the owner’s estate, with careful maintenance by a private staff. In 1995, a wealthy real estate developer in Florida, who only used the car on rare occasions, then acquired the Jaguar.

Over the past 14 years, it has travelled less than 2,000 miles but has been carefully maintained. At this time, the car shows a rich patina indicative of a 15-year old restoration, and while everything is just a little bit less than perfect, the car remains nothing short of spectacular. The brilliant red finish still gleams beautifully, and the supple Connolly leather feels like a silk glove. It is described by the current owner as a “perfect driver,” which could be returned to concours-level condition with a little gentle attention and a minimal financial investment. Or, drive this beauty across the country and feel the thrill first hand of Jaguar’s last iteration of this great series. Best of all, the car is a genuine, matching numbers XK 150S 3.4 Roadster. While the original XK 120 was tremendously capable, for many enthusiasts the XK 150S represents the ultimate and most desirable variant. With its high-performance specification and wonderful condition, this example offers the performance to complement the timeless design so emblematic of Jaguar’s classic XK series roadsters.
