Description:

This Jaguar XK150 DHC was supplied in 1959 to Sr.Ortega in Puerto Rico.
In 1975 Sr. Ortega moved to Mexico taking the car with him. In 1979 it passed to the second owner, an Englishman living in the USA working for Rolls Royce. The car remained with him ever since and in 1989 he brought the car back to the U.K.
The car was then stripped and repainted in Bentley Brewster Green, fitted with “bucket seats”, new carpets hood and tonneau cover. At the same time the engine was rebuilt, and the car was converted to RHD.
In 1995 a further development of the car was undertaken. More performance and reliability for continental touring was the aim. After discussions with Alec Harvey Bailey a thick front anti roll bar was fitted to improve handling. This also increase understeer to provide greater stability at high cruising speeds.
More work was entrusted to McKenzie Guppy and Sons the Bentley specialists and Twyford Moors the XK restoration specialists .
This programme has included the following:
Engine rebuilt by Sigma Engineering to full 3.8S spec with new cylinder block and 3 carburettor cylinder heads with “touring" cams to maintain good low down torque. The crankshaft was reground and tuftrided, and fitted with with all new bearings. The cylinder head was overhauled. New valves oil and water pumps and a high torque starter motor were fitted. A new clutch and Tremec 5 speed gearbox and a new propshaft were fitted. Other work included new rear springs, and front suspension dampers. The brakes were uprated to four pot type with a new servo.
To further improve handling Series 111 E Type wheels and tyres were fitted and to counter increased steering weight electric power steering was fitted - although this is a delightful convenience it is often switched off on driving through mountain roads for maximum feel.
Head lights uprated and late type rear lamps were fitted. The car fully rewired. Three point seat belts fitted with new carpets and over mats.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
