At auction by Bonhams in Monaco next May 18, 2009.
Descr.:
This left-hand drive XK150 was purchased by the current owner in 2001. The vendor’s intention was to use the car on European historic rallies, and many improvements to its performance, durability and safety have been made with this in mind. Works undertaken include a complete engine rebuild of a 3.8 litre unit by a German specialist (in 2003) and the installation of a Getrag five-speed gearbox. The cylinder head has been modified to ‘fast road’ specification; Mallory-type electronic ignition fitted; the original SU HD6 carburettors replaced with larger HD8s; and a stainless steel exhaust system installed. Other upgrades include 12-volt alternator electrics and a supplementary Kenlowe fan for the cooling system, which now incorporates an expansion tank.
Improvements to the running gear include dual-circuit operation of the braking system; larger (Jaguar) brake calipers front and rear; adjustable Koni shock absorbers; a new steering rack; and 72-spoke 16”x6” wire wheels (x5). The interior is equipped with competition bucket seats complete with four-point harnesses; Motolita sports steering wheel; walnut veneer instrument panel and a full complement of overhauled and re-calibrated instruments. Other specification highlights include a new wiring loom, new fuel tank and a high-capacity fuel pump. Approximately €40,000 has been spent in upgrading this car to its current specification. The car comes with its FIVA pass no. 018530 dated 28.08.2001 and a comprehensive file including restoration and maintenance invoices.
Over the course of the past eight years ‘S838618BW’ has taken part in the Rallye des Deux Iles (2001) and Iberia Classic (2002) events, and competed six times in the National Classic Tour Belgium, three times in the Liège-Rome-Liège and twice in the Rallye des Alpes. Finished in British Racing Green with beige leather interior, this well developed XK150 is offered with a comprehensive file of invoices for the work carried out and wants only for a new owner to continue its historic rallying career.
