This Jaguar XK150S Coupe is a wonderfully presented example of the elegant classic British sports car, which benefits from significant recent mechanical maintenance.

Under the bonnet sits a naturally aspirated 3.8-litre DOHC straight-six, fed by triple SU carburettors, delivering around 198kW to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive.

This example was originally a UK-market model, which was first sold through Charles Follet Limited in May 1959, though it is now located in Australia, where it has been with the seller and third Australian owner for four years.

The odometer indicates 62,426 miles, however this is not warranted.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

This XK150S Coupe was originally finished in Indigo Blue with Biscuit interior upholstery, but is now presented in the handsome shade of Royal Blue over a light blue leather-trimmed interior, featuring dark blue door card sections, and a refined wood dashboard and door card trims.

It rides on a set of 15-inch chrome wire wheels with two-spoke knock-offs, which are fitted with Nankang Toursport NS tyres.

Equipment includes twin front spotlights, a four-spoke wood-rimmed steering wheel, a Pressmatic Deluxe radio, Smiths gauges, heater and ventilation controls, a locking glove compartment, and push-out front and rear quarter light windows.

This example has been fitted with a single bullet-style door mirror, an aftermarket extractor system, and has had a replacement gearbox, engine block, dashboard and radiator fitted, though the seller notes that the original items are included in the sale.

The car comes with a fire extinguisher, the original toolkit, the original sales invoice from Charles Follet Limited, the service manual, a set of wheel spats, a set of original steel wheels with tyres, a Production Record Trace Certificate from the Jaguar Heritage Trust, three sets of keys, and all the maintenance invoices from the seller’s ownership.

Please note: the numberplate ‘0766 H2’ is not included in the sale. It will revert to an appropriate, age-related numberplate in the event of a successful auction.

CONDITION

Specific notes from the seller include: the car has been repainted at some point in its past, and there are minor signs of interior wear.

The car’s last REGO test was conducted in 2020, which is understood to have resulted in a clean pass with no advisories.

SERVICE HISTORY

This XK150S’ most recent maintenance was carried out in May 2023 by JRG Automotive, which consisted of the generator being rebuilt, a new voltage regulator fitted, a heat shield upgrade, and the brake and power steering systems bled.

The differential was overhauled, and all the wheel bearings were replaced in October 2022.

The rear leaf springs were replaced, adjustable front and rear shock absorbers were fitted, and new sway bar brushes were fitted in July 2022.

Other notable maintenance includes a full service, including work on the electrics and all fluids replaced, as well as the fuel tank being repaired, the tachometer, indicator, clock, locks, ignition coil, high beam foot switch, and radiator hoses being replaced, new brake master and slave cylinders fitted, a new clutch slave cylinder, new steering rack mounts and power steering lines, and the battery replaced.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
