Footnotes
Representing the XK150 in its ultimate configuration, with the 3.8-litre engine and overdrive gearbox, this left-hand drive drophead coupé was manufactured in January 1960 and supplied directly to the Jaguar main dealership in New York, USA. Its first owner was a Mr J M Boscoe of Sacramento, California. Subsequently sold to a new owner in Nevada, the XK remained there until it was discovered, completely intact, having being well stored for a number of years after completing only 40,000 miles from new.
In 2009, the vendor brought the Jaguar back to the UK where a thorough examination revealed that it was completely original, from the matching numbers of all components through to the bodywork, which exhibited few signs of corrosion having been preserved by Nevada's dry atmosphere. The car has since undergone a complete, 'body off', bare metal restoration plus an engine strip down and rebuild. These works were carried out by MRC Restoration (winner of the 2014 NEC Classic Car Show 'Best of Show' award with another XK150, a sister car to this example) while the interior was re-trimmed by the world class Suffolk and Turley of Coventry. Offered with the associated restoration invoices and a V5C document, '206 YUF' has since won several concours events and may be considered a truly 'best in class' example.

Sold at the Bonhams auction referred to above (London, 6 Dec 15) for £427,100 (not a misprint) including buyer's premium. Compare with the pre-auction estimate. Note: not an "S" (and did not purport to be).

This price seems to me to be about £300,000 too much.
I am bewildered.

Sellers description:
This LHD example is indeed an S model with a 3.8 Litre engine, has overdrive as standard and is finished in Black over a Black Hide. It was manufactured by Jaguar in January 1960 and was subsequently supplied to the main Jaguar dealership in New York. It was later sold to its first private owner Mr J M Boscoe of Sacramento, California. Mr Boscoe soon sold the car to only its second owner located in Nevada, who would remain the owner until circa 2008. By the end of Mr Boscoe's ownership the XK had covered a mere 40,000 Miles from new, most of which had been covered in the dry and kind climate of Nevada.
In circa 2008 it was purchased and subsequently brought back to the United Kingdom where a "body off" restoration to the most exacting standards was embarked upon by marque specialists. Upon arrival, a thorough examination revealed that the car retained all of its original components including the matching numbers engine. The metal work showed little sign of corrosion. Both the body and chassis were carefully stripped back to bare metal before being re-painted to a concours finish in the original colour of Black. The engine and mechanical components were handled with the same nature and all rebuilt to the highest standards before being carefully reinstalled into the car. Trim work was handled by Jaguar specialists Suffolk & Turley where it was completed to exact original specifications and finished in the original colour of Black. Post restoration it entered a number of concours events winning several awards.
Its most recent owner approached DK Engineering in 2015 looking for the finest example of an XK and this car was the result of that search. DK Engineering carried out a comprehensive inspection and service. During said work and to ensure that the XK drove equally as well as it presented, it was decided to rebuild the gearbox and overdrive unit as well as tend to a number of small mechanical items found. It has since been annually maintained with no expense spared by ourselves.
Today this exceptional XK has covered under 46,800 Miles from new. Having been restored and maintained to the highest possible standards it presents as one would imagine. Presented with full UK registration, a superb history file documenting the depth and detail of restoration, and in complete original form, this XK may be considered as a truly "best in class" example. This 150 S is ready to be used and enjoyed immediately, located at our showrooms just outside London.
