This elegant and classic Jaguar XK120 was completed at the legendary Coventry-based Browns Lane Jaguar factory on January 28th, 1952. Equipped for the booming US sportscar market, the new Jaguar was delivered to distributor Max Hoffman in New York shortly thereafter, as a left-hand drive car. Although the Jaguars early history remains undocumented, it is known to have enjoyed single family ownership for more than 30 years. The Jaguar has always been kept in good order and maintained regardless of use. During the mid-2000s, this 1952 Jaguar XK120 Roadster had documented restoration work done by the renowned Jaguar specialist at XKs Unlimited in San Luis Obispo, California. Then in 2012, further documented restoration work was done by White Post Restorations of Virginia. This Jaguar XK120 roadster was completed on January 28, 1952 and distributed in the US via Max Hoffman of New York City. A cosmetic refresh carried out between 2012 and 2013 by White Post Restorations of White Post, Virginia included a repaint in white as well as reupholstering the interior in brown and tan leather. Power is provided by a 3.4-liter inline-six equipped with dual SU carburetors and paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Additional equipment includes a tan soft top, rear wheel skirts, Smiths instrumentation, and body-color 16” steel wheels. This XK120 is now offered by the selling dealer in South Huntington, New York with a tool kit, two Production Record Trace certificates, records, and a clean Montana title.

The car was finished from the factory in black and underwent a repaint in 2006 that was preceded by repairs to the nose, trunk, and left rear corner as well as welding of cracks in the front panel. A repaint in the current shade of white was carried out in 2013, at which time a dent on the rear deck was repaired and a replacement tan soft top was installed. The side curtains were also re-trimmed in 2013 and are included in the sale.

White-finished 16” steel wheels wear matching hubcaps, and a spare is found in the rear storage area. The suspension was refreshed in the mid-2000s and the four-wheel drum brakes were overhauled in 2013. Work in 2018 included resealing the steering box and rebuilding the rear lever shocks.

The cabin houses a split bench seat that was reupholstered in brown leather with pleated tan inserts in 2012. Color-coordinated trim accents the dash, and the car is equipped with lap belts.

A four-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of centrally-mounted Smiths instrumentation that includes a 140-mph speedometer, a reverse-sweep 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset analog clock, and a suite of auxiliary gauges. The speedometer has been rebuilt, and the five-digit odometer shows 700 miles, though total mileage is unknown.

The 3.4-liter inline-six is equipped with dual SU carburetors and was bored .030″ over during the rebuild in 2006. The fuel tank and radiator were replaced, and an electric cooling fan was added. The crankshaft seal was replaced in 2018 by the selling dealer.

The engine block stamping is shown above, and a photo of the cylinder head stamping and reproduction data plate are provided in the gallery below.

The four-speed manual transmission was resealed in 2018 and the differential pinion seal was replaced. 

The Production Record Trace certificate shows the factory colors, production and dispatch dates, and identification numbers. A framed certificate will also accompany the vehicle.
