This 1953 Jaguar XK120 SE roadster is believed to have been delivered new through New York in January 1953 before being parked circa 1965. Chassis S673376 was acquired as a project out of Salt Lake City in 2005 by the current owner’s late father, who commissioned a body-off refurbishment by Ray’s Jaguar Restorations of Limerick, Pennsylvania, that was completed in 2006. Finished in Pastel Green over Suede Green leather, the car is powered by a 3.4-liter inline-six mated to a four-speed manual transmission. It is accompanied by a Fawn soft top with matching side curtains and is further equipped with dual SU carburetors and a Falcon stainless-steel exhaust system. This XK120 SE roadster is now offered on dealer consignment with a collection of tools, parts invoices, pre-refurbishment photographs, historical ownership documents, a copy of the Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate, a Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens (FIVA) identification card, and a Pennsylvania title in the owner’s name.
The selling dealer tells us that rust repair was performed before the body was stripped and repainted in its original Pastel Green finish as part of the 2005 to 2006 refurbishment. Exterior details include a removable Fawn soft top with matching side curtains as well as tri-bar headlights, a split windshield, and footwell vents. Scratches are noted on the bodywork behind the passenger compartment.
The 16″ chrome wire wheels are secured by knock-off hubs and mounted with 185-width Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. The XK120 was factory equipped with an independent front suspension with telescopic-type hydraulic shock absorbers along with semi-elliptical rear leaf springs and Girling hydraulic rear shock absorbers. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel drums.
The cabin was re-trimmed in the course of the refurbishment. It features bucket seats upholstered in Suede Green leather along with color-coordinated door panels and carpets. Additional interior appointments include a dashboard-mounted rearview mirror, a passenger-side grab handle, lap belts, and door map pockets.
The four-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of Smiths instrumentation including a reverse-sweep 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset analog clock as well as a 140-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 67k miles, approximately 1k of which were added under current ownership.
The 3.4-liter DOHC inline-six was factory rated at 180 horsepower in SE specification. The engine breathes through dual SU carburetors and was reportedly rebuilt as part of the 2005 to 2006 refurbishment. The consigning dealer notes that work in preparation for the sale involved servicing the carburetors with replacing needles and seats, rebuilding the water pump, re-coring the radiator, and replacing the lower radiator hoses as well as the camshaft and breather cover gaskets. A manual choke control switch has been added.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The car is further equipped with a Falcon stainless-steel exhaust system.
A photocopy of the Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace Certificate shows the original colors and drivetrain numbers as well as the build and dispatch dates.
The Identity Card issued by the Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens (FIVA) in 2007 is included.
The current Pennsylvania title carries an “Antique Vehicle” brand.
